Advice on champagne

Veuve pop-up in Melbourne. Prices a bit steep at $135 a bottle, and plastic glasses, but the view is to die for!

Langtons - they had this grower mixed pack for $350 IIRC

These particular people were offering dozen reds and two champagnes valued at 120 each total price 330 ( over the phone offer)

I declined

I don't drink that much and don't have anywhere to put it all.

It was fairly impromptu (after a show).

In any case you would need to leave the CBD grid and cross the river. Can you make it that far?

Runs to Jan 31 if you're interested in making an appearance?

Haha! I think I know where it is and yes I can make it that far (even without Uber ;) )
In the US until the 31st...

You can keep the Ayala though ;)

Oh and to the comment upthread about Champagne at the drive-in, there are now vehicles with "chilled" glove boxes which might meet your requirement ;)

Thought you may like to take a look at this.

Good Afternoon Wayne,

The other night I had a private Tasting with the business development manager of Krug Champagne House and he has discounted the Krug Champagnes so we can offer them to the top customers of United Cellars. We have just purchased the last of the 2000 vintage champagne at a staggering price.

There will never be a better time to move to the penthouse of Champagne producers that is Krug.

Review:
Composed of 43% chardonnay, 42% pinot noir and 15% pinot meunier, the only Grand Marque to use pinot meunier in its vintage releases. Glowing, bright green-gold, the palate is an amazingly intense battle for supremacy between the layered richness that is the DNA of all Krugs, with roasted nuts, figs and honey on the one side, glorious grapefruit, Meyer lemon and mineral acidity on the other. Krug is the greatest wine of Champagne. 99 points James Halliday

This is quite an incredible Champagne, with virtually unmatched grace and complexity, a hedonistic treat that will leave you gasping for more at the end of the bottle. The nose has deep autolysis notes, buttered toast and crumpets, dark, yeasty notes and a wealth of melted butter. Notes of dried apple and plenty of spice here, a real essay in deep pinot noir. The palate is precise and deeply anchored; it holds the line beautifully, delivering concentrated lemon and grapefruit flavours, assertive, tingly acidity, finely beaded spark and smooth, nutty hazelnut flavours through the finish. A savoury, complex and majestic wine that's very, very distinctive. 98 points Nick Stock

Review:
The 2003 Dom Perignon was derided by many critics who suggested the year should never have been declared as a vintage, the wine inferior. I wonder what they will say about this wine, compared by Krug (inter alia) to its '59, '76 and '89, all hot years like '03. Yellow gold in colour, the bouquet has citrus blossom, honey, bricohe and fresh ginger aromas, the gloriously mouthfilling palate echoing the bouquet and adding toasted nuts and pink grapefruit. A wine of exceptional depth an complexity. 98 points James Halliday.

Rich, lightly smoky nose with acidity that immediately seems lower than usual. They lost a lot of Chardonnay to the 11 April frost. For the first time since 1802 they picked in August. Pinot Noir was much better quality than the Chardonnay and some Meunier lifted the notably broad, rich blend. It seems much more forward than usual Krug vintages - even more forward than the Grande Cuvée based on 2003. 18/20 Jancis Robinson MW

Review:
Krug Rose Grande Cuvée As scarce as hens teeth, this is tailor made for the person who has everything. It’s mighty reputation is just as big as the price, and this Rose champagne is just the thing for impressing that special someone. It is an impossibly complex blend of aged reserve wines and base wine of the blending year. It marries finesse with all the traditional Krug complexity: It’s a bit more elegant than the usual rich style from Krug, which makes it extra appealing. Strawberries, dried roses, citrus and toastiness decorate the nose, whilst the palate is dry and elegant, with bright red fruit and citrus flavours, and ultra-fine bubble, a touch of creaminess, and an almost floral finish. Then a stupendously fine finish and aftertaste. 97 points James Halliday.

I also have access to the famous Krug Clos Du Mesnil and Krug Clos D'Ambonnay so please express your interest if these are wines you like to collect.

These prices are for a limited time only! If you have friends or family who would be interested do not hesitate to forward my offer.

I look forward to your response.

ok folks... it's decision time. looking for some suggestions please!

i need 24 bottles of french bubbles for my wedding reception. have tried and ruled out perrier jouet and moet.

mumm in consideration cos it's affordable.
taittinger is top of the price range (@ approx. $45/bottle @ Dan's with 5% wish & 4% pricepal)

any other suggestions? and yes it has to be french (don't ask!)

Does it have to be "French" or does it have to be "Champagne"? Even with Champagne there are options at around $30. Sure not top of the line, but I suspect that's not really what you are after here.

I went with Taittinger for my wedding which was a crowd pleaser (fewer people had tried it before compared to Mumm or Moet).

Piper can be had quite affordably as well....typically around $44/bottle at DM, but often on sale (LL had it at $39/bott last week).

Ah yes, I knew there was a cheaper one. I've tasted this, its a very decent wine as the awards might attest. While its not my favourite of the wines mentioned, its by no means outclassed by them all as a group and I wouldn't (haven't in fact) had a problem serving this to a large group.

I don't know your friends/family but aside from a few wine connoisseurs (sometimes less favourably called wine wankers) most of that group wouldn't have noticed the difference.

Any specials going lately? I'm struggling to find Taittinger for any less that $50, which isn't bad but I had much better deals last year at around $40/bottle in a case.
My stocks are getting frighteningly low! Only two bottles left in the wine cabinet and going fast!!
