Advice on champagne

Cynicor why is that? I felt confident that you liked getting funds for champagne and other bubbles.

Doing a heap of volunteer work and some travel, Cove!
Jan was Higashikawa, Japan for back country snowboarding
Feb and March are Vava'u, Tonga where I am the sole doctor at a clinic (interrupted by a 5 day stint as ships doc on the Leeuwin UC Ultimate Challenge | Leeuwin Ocean Adventure if you know anyone who would be a participant, carer or donor!)
April is Alaska
May-July are RFDS out of Cairns
August-Nov are North America holiday time!
then potentially another Leeuwin stint before I find real work again...

I am getting paid May-Juy actually but that needs to fund all the other time out this year!

Really good to hear that Cynicor. Bubbles can wait because of your youth.
I hope you get repaid in spades as I believe in what good you do will come back to you in the future.

That's pretty awesome! Unfortunately my profession doesn't let me do awesome volunteer work like you! I'm keen for a bottle or 2 of the LGA if in Perth. I'm really tempted to open my bottle of 02 Bolly RD!

Yes, $145 now (further $20 discount expired).

Any plans to visit MEL?
Maybe we can take two bottles each with Penegal.

Sounds like a plan. I have a brief Sydney domestic transit coming up late April, and May, and will be based out of Cairns after that. I'm happy to go up to 3 at that price I reckon, if anyone has issues committing, and can either pay on collection or pay upfront. Hopefully one of you doesn't mind holding onto them for a little while for me, or possibly a friendly AFF could lug them back to Perth if they come by before I make it there.

Hi there all :)

I started this thread 5 years ago, mainly for my wife. But am slowly coming to terms myself with the delights that champagne has.

But anyway, not to skite or bignote myself, but have just combined two loves - flying and champagne. Did JFK-DXB and DXB-BNE in F on Emirates. So I have now officially done what I suspect should be the Ultimate Goal of a true aviation/champagne devotee: I have sat in a closed F suite in Emirates, drank my Dom accompanied by the caviar presentation, before popping in for a shower at 40,000 feet. Obviously after which I had another glass, to accompany their unasked-for fruit platter. Anyone who has done the Emirates thing would get this :)

Now if they would serve a nicer champagne... :p

Enjoyed the Taittinger masterclass at DMs last night. Run by someone that actually works for McWilliams/Taittinger.

The Comtes is always a winner but I was really impressed with the Nocturne. Its not a sweet champagne, though its dosage is higher than standard (17.5 I think they said). However it lacks that acidity of a regular champagne which makes it a little easier to consume more of it

sounds great! Have been to a couple of DM masterclasses & they're not bad.

what year was the Comtes? Am wanting to try the 06 as that's what we saw in the caves in Reims!

Agree with the Nocturne, I purchased it cause I liked the bottle, but really enjoyed it (despite my husband calling it the disco bottle )

It was the 2004, though 2006 is their "current" vintage.

Hm, cant say I've ever had a problem with consuming more of it!

I'm not a white wine drinker, and with some champagnes I find after 2-3 glasses the acidity can be a bit overwhelming, particularly in the lower end champagnes. Obviously that's a personal thing, but I found the Nocturne lighter on the acid so I'd be able to drink a few more glasses. Give me Comtes though and I am happy to keep on drinking.

I'm not a white wine drinker myself (a big red man) but nevertheless find champagne goes down extremely easily, my wife might say too easily. Of course, as you say it's a personal thing, I think my preferences are at the dryer end of the scale, so a bit of acidity not really a problem.

Blackcat20 have you ever tried Rumball sparkling Shiraz or Merlot? Can be quite refreshing....sure it's not champagne and at $18 to $20 you might think it could be a winner if you have a crowd like two or more.

I find the more expensive champagnes go down quite easily
I get a bit of reflux (usually stress-induced) so some of the more acidic stuff sets it off which kinda ruins the experience.

No I haven't but will look into it. I don't discriminate against cheaper wines; there are some perfectly good ones around the $20 mark.

Majella sparkling Shiraz is very good too.. although more in the $25-$30 range depending on specials etc.
