Advice on champagne

I have never stooped that low CFWM
Really? God I have stooped way below that.

In 1979 I was part owner of a 3yo filly we raced by the name Victorian Era. She won a maiden race at Bairnsdale by 8 lengths but started very short at 6/4 so we hardly pocketed a fortune from the books. We did pocket $270 in stake money for winning the race - so we set up a party at the Alberton Hotel on the drive home to Foster - spent a tad over $300 on Great Western Imperial Reserve Sparkling - have no idea how they had so much on hand - but we drank them dry - don't think I would repeat that exercise today.

Has anyone tried the Aubert Et Fils Brut? Thoughts?

Seeing as I didn't get a response I decided to take one for the team. Bought a bottle today to experiment.

It's not completely terrible but it's cheap for a reason and we're not rushing back for more. Initial aromas of melon and stone fruit fail to be lifted through the bouquet with an entirely flat and slightly acrid finish. Slightly better with food to draw out the flavours a bit more. 5/10

I guess at a price point ~$25 yoy cant really expect too much...

For $25 I would expect quite a bit from an Australian methode champenoise ..... maybe you should raise your standards!

Problem is that we are not talking about Australian.... the Aubert Et Fils Brut is made in France...!

Yes I'd rather drink an Australian sparkling and that's saying something. You can get a pretty decent Australian sparkling at the $25 mark. I was prepared for it to be either battery acid or an unbelivable find of an everyday quaffer.
Oh well, #tryeverythingonce!

I now see that Aubert & Fils is sold at Co-op in the UK as a budget champagne to compete with Aldi et al... Speaking of which, if anyone is in London any time soon, the Harvey Nicks' house brand champagne is actually a pretty lovely drop! Goes pretty well with a nice serve of sevruga. :)

We are talking about champagne and so by definition it has to come from Champagne, France.

My better half drinks Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve that she bought off Qantas epiQure (around $60). For special occasions, it is usually a bottle of the 2000 Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill (around $300).
