Advice on champagne

Going to pull the trigger on the tattenger deal on epiqure... while I cant use a wish card or starthere, the 3,000 QFF will be nice :D

A bit (lot?) OT but got info y'day from son (works in Sth Africa) that Nigeria now has the world's highest consumption of Moet - apparently the Nigerians have quite a taste for champagne nowadays. Who'd have guessed that? FWIW the value of the Nigerian economy has now surpassed that of South Africa for the first time - something the South Africans aren't happy about - and their alcoholic tastes are starting to become commensurate with their rapidly growing "champagne" economy. Dominos Pizza and KFC are also on fire but, just to show some things never change, chicken imports are restricted (forcing up prices) because a government minister owns a lot of poultry farms and wants to maintain his dominance in the market.

I've never paid much attention to airport pricing but can someone tell me whether it's cheaper to buy champagne at BNE on-departure or SIN on-arrival?

Getting a few bottles for the parental units and rellies in Malaysia we're visiting - thinking 2 x Dom 2004, Billecart rose and Charles Heidsieck 2000 (if not available my back up is the La Grand Annee). Probably exceeds the SIN duty free allowance but past experience suggests they don't care even when asked.

It's probably cheapest getting them at Dan's but really can't be bothered bubble wrapping etc and wasting valuable checked baggage space.

Nice selection there...

Dom/Krug will be cheaper when you arrive in SG vs here, so get in in SG........ I'd be more inclined for the Krug over Dom :) but you know your stuff..

I'd take Bolly LGA over the Charley 2k... I had the 02 LGA for Christmas and it was spectacular, I had the 04 when I was in Petrus in London... Wins over Dom!
The mid/low end champers its alot cheaper to buy here, but why would you bother as you mentioned above..

Rose.... Bollinger again :)

The mumm at that price is great... BTW I had some Champagne Duperrey Premier Cru Brut (WOW Private Label) the other day and for the price I thought it was quite acceptable...

To be honest I thought it was equal or better than Mumm, but it's a close contest... I still like the Moet and particularly the nose of the stuff...

My Favorites are still Billecart-Salmon & Pol Roger, but to be honest it's nice to mix things up a bit... especially at my price point

Looking forward to the day to trying a vintage champagne.

I tried a bottle of the Champagne Duperrey Premier Cru Brut a few weeks ago but thought it disappointing. IIRC it was about $29, which puts it in the same price bracket as the Tassie (not a champagne) House of Arras Brut Elite, which I have enjoyed often. I remember thinking at the time that it was only an extra $25 or so for a BC and wished I had done that.

My partner said she found this for dinner tomorrow night and attached this photo. I said it was out of our price range. Turns out it was a prize. I can't find any accurate info regarding the retail value. Out of interest can anyone give me a ball park figure? I see the 2004 retails for $189-200. Around the same cost, retail, when it was the current vintage 2 yrs ago. Decent drop, many think it better than the 03 at least.

Hey cove, how long did it take for your qwibble to clear? I'm still waiting on a transaction from January.

The rebate payment issues in about 90 days so if your account is still ok it should arrive really soon.

Pushka thank you for the reputable link. I hope it is all they say it is. It's distracted me all day. My partner is in Sydney at the moment along with our newly acquired prize. My flight tomorrow can't come early enough!

It sure is. I have a gift boxed one at home with matching Dom stemware I picked up from the cellar door a few years ago. It's easily worth $300+ in my opinion. You won't find much left of this vintage sadly.

Nor in puppysparkes newly acquired bottle I'd suggest. ;)

Actually, it sounds more like something you might use for a proposal - except his partner won it!

Her father won it and he's not a big fan of alcohol. She gladly accepted it when it was offered. Surely as a non drinker curiosity would get the better of you!
