Advice on champagne

Interesting to see that some products vary wildly in price from one Dans store to another, even just on the website.

Anyway, Moët can currently be had for $41.xx

When you could get Taittinger for that price last week, I'm not sure that's great value ;)

I've no idea, but see that ComeFlyWithMe does :D

To be honest I'm not usually given to spending that amount of money on bubbles but I don't mind if I get a nice drop or three onboard ;)

Apologies for mowing your grass there Princess

An eminently wise decision I'd say. Might add at least one to the collection at that price. It will probably be worth more next year when all supply is exhausted.

I think at that price point a legitimate question.

I'd say it is a wholesale "dumping" - which sounds far worse than it is. Many champagne houses and distributors have found themselves with a glut as consumption has taken a dive of late. They probably picked up a final pallet at a good price.

TBH, you would never have heard of Taittinger Brut a Reserve going for $41 either, so I think the same applies. I note on the latter that you couldn't get a case as they are the individual gift boxed versions. Christmas has been sorted this year ;)

BTW, it's our duty as AFF'ers to resolve any glut in Champagne stocks tout de suite! ;)

UK consumption is way down, the Brits have changed taste to the cheaper Italian Prosecco. Probably a result of the poor economic conditions. It's hurting France's champagne regions.

Over time, the immature Chinese palate will probably take up where the Brits left off.

An interesting article from December:
France is drowning in champagne as Britain loses taste for bubbly - Europe - World - The Independent

Very interesting. I would have thought, though, that Champagne was an antidote for depression ;):p.

I agree. How can you be sad with a glass of the French bubbles on hand? Some people just can't be satisfied ;) talk about first world problems, sheesh!

I disagree. More likely been sitting in another country and wasn't selling. Hence moved here on the cheap. At that price, I'd question whether it was even shipped in a refrigerated reefer.
