Vintage Cellars offering Perrier Jouet and Taittinger for $50/ bottle.
I tried the Perrier Jouet recently and was not impressed with it. It seemed a bit 'light' in flavour. I am not sure what the correct term is, maybe 'body'.
I think the temperature was about right. It came from the same fridge as the others I had on the day that were fine. Maybe my palette doesn't appreciate such a variety.Possibly served too cold?

I didn't like it as much as Bollinger personally

Bollinger is my preferred Champagne
That's ok then, I'm just blind. Went through twice and didn't see it. Didn't help I was at work and the bosses kept walking in.
I've just had a few days in the Champagne region, and unfortunately for my future bank balance, I've tasted some spectacular wines and have some new favourites.
Two standouts for me were the Ruinart "Dom Ruinart" 2002 blanc de blanc, and the Veuve Clicquot "Cave Privee" Rose 1989.
I really enjoyed both tours (Don't miss Ruinart if you possibly can, and I did the Aromatiquement Votre tour at Clicquot which included vintage tasting with cheeses down in the crayeres, which was amazing!) I also visited Mumm and Moet Chandon since I was nearby, but nothing really amazing there. Kicking myself I didn't get to Billecart-Salmon though...

Seriously good post Lizzi - we are heading there for a few days next June - no plans at all ATPIT - I have started a thread seeking info on specific regions - http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/destination-guide/france-wine-regions-61252.html - please feel free to expand as much as possible in that thread if you could please.
ohhh do tell more! we're in paris in a month and hoping for an overnight out to the region, but it's looking more and more likely that we'll only get a day. saw ruinart is 70 euros/head which is on the must do list. hoping to squeeze at least another 1 or 2 tastings in.
did you book yourselves, go on a package etc etc!?
