AFF#4 contemplations

Been there on a Wednesday night recently? Not a lot of fun at all and they serve beer in plastic cups. Unless you want to perve on young uni students not my idea of a quiet night out....
Used to be a regular haunt of mine when I was doing monthly travel to Brisbane and I was staying at Auchenflower.

In that case maybe the Redcliffe RSL is a more appropriate venue .

Hmm, this event has come a long way from when we used to have a BBQ at the NM residence .

Why can’t we do that? :p

Q: I heard something about a new Westin in Brisbane, any new development on that? Will it be open in time for AFF4? :D

There were plans in 2008 for one to open by 2012, but the project looks to have been cancelled.

Haven't heard of a Westin being put up in BNE ... what hotel did you end up looking at for the FT AGM?

We're booked at the Emporium. :)
We also looked at the Limes which happens to be a member of designhotels, but Emporium seems to have a nicer looking bar.

A shame the Westin in Brissie seems to be canned. Ah well, c'est la vie.

We should have organised a game of golf for the Flyertalk AGM weekend!

When do you propose playing golf at AFF#4 considering the weekend looks like being full of organised events already? Friday or Monday? Or do you want people to have an alternative to the organised events on Saturday? I can easily skip lunch and have a game of golf if enough people are interested....

A round of golf in a 4-ball shouldn’t take more than 4 hours, so if you had an early start you could still make lunch quite easily I’d think. Tee-off at something like 7:30?

Or maybe just do 9 holes... a nice relaxing 2 hours or so if done at decent pace and no slow players in front of us.

Aye, that it has. Those were the days - you, Dave Noble, Willyroo, IainF and me. Am I missing anyone?

Frankly, that goes for most establishments in Brisbane. Have to agree with you there JohnK :lol:.

Of course, a game of Golf might not go astray ... ;)
Hmmm, could be interested in that. The closest to the city is Victoria Park (a public course). Not a Sanctuary Cove quality course. Another public course is St Lucia (would be my pick, about 7 kms from CBD).

4 Hours? In one's dreams. Allow 4 hours for the play; 30 minutes beforehand and an hour for the 19th.

Sunday Morning of course .... say 7am through Midday.

4 hours for the play, yes. Sure there’s always alcohol to be drunk afterwards, and/or during, but 30 mins before hand. Normally I arrive on time, put the clubs on the back of a buggy and go.

Would have to skip the golf myself - having attempted to play holes 1-18 before, it's safer for everyone else if I jump straight to the 19th instead

I have played on many golf courses where if you do not check in at the pro-shop at least 20 minutes before your booked tee-time, you can very well lose it.

Never a problem at Royal Beerwah at 0500:lol:

SYD-BNE via AKL is a possibility (though a slightly insane one ;)) - you'd also have to make quite a long day of it to get in to BNE same day.

The cheap LAN J seats seem to have gone SYD-AKL-SYD. Still very cheap on the same flights for AKL-SYD-AKL.

Sounds very formal.

I'll say! I haven't even come across that at some of the 'nicer' courses I've played at.

I'm thinking if there is enough for 2 4-balls, one of them can be the serious players, the others can be the social and may do a 2 vs 2 Ambrose or something of the like

Count me in if someone can give me a lift or share a cab to the golf course.

As this is likely to be the AFF Golf Challenge #2 it would have to be stroke play or stableford at worse. Plus I wouldn't want to miss having a laugh at people trying to play out of trees, bunkers, water etc.

Put me down with the social foursome as I am only a hacker not a serious player. ;)

I can cheat with whomever, but not sure I’d be able to get to BNE, play golf, get home, shower, get back to BNE for closing drinks in time…

I could offer my work shower in Fortitude Valley if required and (I'd have to remember to bring) towels
