It’s unbelievable. Next week is looking like a real tough week to guess who’ll win what matches. I’m almost tempted to select the teams with the odds against them just incase.

After the ridicule of asking for a NRL comp and having other oztips tipping comps going I went along and threw in some tips for AFF regularly, not having much of a clue other than GO SWANS!!!

Interesting that the top 9 people haven't changed..including 2 sets of 3 people in ties for 4th and 7th. You all picked exactly the same

As one of the players mentioned on 3aw radio they should be charged with theft for stealing that match. The doggies will be dirty in themselves for not finishing hard.

Have the Saints forgotten how to score points? Only 93 points scored in their past 2 games. Very sad.

that’s unlucky, I try to enter my tips immediately after the last match of the week, and then change as appropriate over the week.

Without offending anyone is there a way in saying that tips should be open until the start of a game? So if you miss a Friday night game you can still enter tips for the next 7 games....

I don’t think that is a user-specific preference, but could be wrong.

Tips are open till just about the start of the first game, then closed off for fairness to everyone else who managed to get their tips in.

Applying anything else leads to, "oh dear, forgot to get Friday and Saturday's tips in, I should be able to do Sundays though..." which is unfair to everyone else.

... being the opinion of the person setting up the competition.

If one does not agree, they don't have to join ... but still may so anyway.

Having run workplace tip comps a few times in the past, the problem with this suggest (which sounds good in theory) is that knowing the outcome of the first match will change how you might tip in other matches of the round. If the first match is an upset win then it would give an advantage in being able to try to pick another upset win in the remaining 7 games. Whereas someone who tipped all 8 games had a more difficult choice in terms of picking upset wins. Just as an example.

In the comps I ran, however, non tippers defaulted to away teams, which acts as a leveller that allows you to remain in the running. I don't mind this comps idea of giving one less than the lowest tippers score. But to me it is a penalty that could be considered to be unfair. Whoever, forgets their tips are basically dragged down to the level of the person with the lowest tipping ability. While AFL is a game based on a fumble, it is not clear to me why tipping should also be made a random process, as it does take some skill. There are also may good reasons why a person might be unable to submit tips, I not sure they should be penalised.

But that is just my opinion and I'l likely to argue the opposite tomorrow. I also willing joined this comp.

What a bunch of rubbish JohnK, typically if it doesn't suit you, you winge your cough off about it. Fine print, pigs bottom! Everyone joined of their own free will, the whole thing has been transparent since day 1.
Seeing as you dont like it, why dont you jump online and organise something of your own that falls into the parameters that you feel it needs to be. Your presence on the comp will be sadly missed, I am getting so close to loosing it here... :growl:

Well I picked the Dogs adn similarly Brisbane Liona...who look at this early stage to be losers against Sydney. 56 to 20 midway through the 2nd quarter.

Haven't seen the other results from today...agggh, how did North Melbourne beat Melbourne? At least I picked Port ...

Straitman - do you really think that statement applies to post about timing?

It would seem that the post where JK has offended me by suggesting that the rules have only just become apparent has been removed and where he has openly said he has lost interest in the comp. If a MOD has removed it, I think it should be put back on so I dont end up looking like a complete A-Hole...

I don't hold a grudge, hence the reason I went out of my way to contact JK Saturday, pick him up from the airport and deliver him safe to lunch. We have also previously shared dinner and a beer or two at different times - but I too am allowed to share that opinion, and if I feel that he is being a little over the top with a statement - I will and am entitled to say so. Maybe if the post is replaced, all will come to light

Well I must also share some stuff here about comp setup and I think it is on topic, as it is about the tipping comp. I was also suprised by a couple of things to do with the comp - the 10 bonus points and the getting lowest tipper minus when not entering tips.

But firstly, I signed up without reading the full conditions. I wouldn't do that with a Credit card, but did with the tipping comp. Therefore I have to live with it, it was my problem. Even having that surprised moment, I can understand why the choices were made. In my previous tipping comp it was a cash system with weekly payouts for a perfect score = bonus points here.

My surprise, hasn't lead me to lose interest as the season has only just started. Given the how random AFL is, anything could happen.

I also very thankful that the tipping comp was started. Thank you for doing that.
