I think I have captured most of the important events for the Sept-Nov period

2-4 Sept -
9-11 Sept - AFL/NRL Finals
16-18 Sept - AFL/NRL Finals / QLD, VIC School Holidays
23-25 Sept - AFL / NRL Finals / WA Queens Birthday Holiday Weekend / NSW, QLD, VIC School Holidays
30 Sept -2 Oct - AFL & NRL Grand Final / NSW, QLD, VIC, SA School Holidays / NSW, SA Labour Day Holiday Weekend
7-9 Oct - Bathurst V8’s / NSW, SA School Holidays
14-16 Oct - SA School Holidays
21-23 Oct
28-30 Oct - Melb Cup Carnival - Derby Day
1 Nov - Melb Cup
3 Nov - Melb Cup Carnival - Oaks Day
4-6 Nov - Melb Cup Carnival - Stakes Day
11-13 Nov
18-20 Nov
25-27 Nov

Therefore if we were to choose 4 clear weekends (Fri-Sun) to go to a poll , then you would consider the following dates

*2-4 Sept
* 21-23 Oct
* 11-13 Nov
* 18-20 Nov
* 25-27 Nov

Actually the AFL finals will start the weekend of 9-11 Sept. And the GF will be 1 October.

Your right. It seems the AFL have thrown a BYE weekend on 2-4 Sept in between Round 23 & 1st week of the Finals , which has to be a first ...very strange.

I have updated my post and i suppose that now adds 2-4 Sept as a clear weekend also that could be included in the poll.

Coz North Melbourne, not being able to be dislodged from their ladder position in the last round this year 'rested' 10 players from the last match, which while 'legal', made the game a bit farcical and took the piss somewhat. So the AFL figured if they threw in a bye between last round and first final, there'd be little likelihood of that happening again...one week off may be beneficial for player and team, but two is likely to be detrimental. :)
