Both Doyles and the Wato Bay have been institutions in Watson's Bay for years.50 years ago Doyles was the place to go to for seafood but success went to their heads.I spent the morning of my wedding at the Watson's bay pub 48 years ago so if it does become a venue I will try very hard to make it.

Having been to the Watson's Bay pub quite a few times, the problem that we regularly find as a group of 4 or 6 is getting a table, at least as a walk in. The place is usually packed. Not sure if you can reserve a table or what is available for groups. I always recommend the place to visitors.

I am not a local but for something different, why not travel by train (using Opal card) to and from Woy Woy (scenic trip) then on the $16.40 return per person public ferry to Empire Bay - one hour return trip, not sure of ferry's seating capacity - and hire a room at some local restaurant for your guest speaker?

Apologies if it's viewed as impractical but it would be a change from what I find to be delightful (though some locals may feel jaded) Sydney Harbour activities.

Central Coast Ferries is the waterway operator, and has concession fares for seniors etc. bringing the cost down by half per person.

Can't advise on private rooms in restaurants at Woy Woy as I've only been to a couple of venues there.

I think the problem with this idea is that it's quite a journey outside of Sydney. Now, if the Do was being held in Gosford on the other hand...

I recall when AFF#6 was decided there were suggestions to do activities in Brisbane – which is close to the Gold Coast – but wasn't the city that was chosen.

I think Sea Rock in Circular Quay have a complete room that they rarely use that could take a bit of a crowd where it is detached from the main restaurant.

Central to Woy Woy is 85 mins train each way, id be less keen to head up to central coast as when you add on commute to Central and from restaurant back to woy woy station it would be circa 2 hours to get home afterwards. Plus weekends = track work so likely longer commute and its too far for an uber.

.

Given AFFers have no compunction in making journeys of 15000 kilometres, they may well be able to cope with 100 kms.

However, not my function. Your decision!

The idea of these gatherings has always been to show off the city chosen, not ignore it and check out the next town over. Personally, if the dinner was in Gosford and I was staying in Sydney, I'd do my own thing that night. There's a difference between a suburb and where/what Gosford is I think. It would be like having dinner in Port Douglas, but staying in Cairns... you may as well just stay in Port Douglas.

Who would go to go to Gosford from Sydney for dinner?

Shelly Beach at Manly has The Boat House and they have private rooms as well. Ferry from Circular Quay to Manly Wharf, a 700mtr walk towards Manly beach and then hang a right and walk along the beach/concrete path to Shelly Beach. You can enjoy the sculptures on the way (in the rocks on your right) or just get an uber/taxi to the Boat House. If you arrive early enough, a beach swim because Shelly Beach is a super safe/calm beach to enjoy and then a ferry back to the city afterwards but first, stop at Manly Wharf for a drink. I believe the ferries stop about 11pm

Nearby Quarantine Station has tours and walks but I havent done them for about 20yrs.

Mrscove and our business use Sydney Cafe in Customs House for some of our business and personal get togethers. Nice views of the Harbour and the food is pretty good.Right opposite Circular Quay train station and buses all nearby make it easy.
I would be happy with this one.

With almost four hours to burn in the SIN lounge and and Amex travel credit about to expire, I’m now Platinum for this with Mrs H coming along for the ride.

Fingers crossed her knee is okay.:p
