So ... I am this close to booking .. but ... $250 a night for the Diamont ... I think not, so anyone got any better suggestions?

Cheers mate, so it's $330 for the Diamont or $220 + 20K points for the Crowne Plaza just around the corner.

Just booked at Diamont.

Flights I'm on:

7 OCT BNE-CBR J QF957, arrive 5pm
9 OCT CBR-SYD J QF 562, depart 16:55
9 OCT SYD-BNE J QF 546

+1 for bus

We are on 2 of the same flights. :p

Crowne Plaza fixed bookings are now $180 each night, better than the $240.00 I originally held on a flexible booking.

Still trying to make it to Priority Club Platinum, what ever that will get me, probably nothing.

~$165/night at diamont through hoteclub.net
Can't find that rate...only $230/night:shock:

CP has a F & F rate for $153/night.

Depending on the itinerary/ plans for the Sat am, and Sun, there's a chance I might be able to come down early Sat am, and return Sun late pm.....hoping....

btw, a bit of google mastery turned up the fact that the $30 off offer is still available on hotelclub.net

So I just booked the 2 night in question for a total of $307.

Direct link is here https://www.hotelclub.com.au/promo/30off/Default.asp although if anyone wants to PM me their email address I get a $10 hotelclub credit for each person I refer (and you still get the $30 off!)

Booked my flights as well:

QF953 08:35 - 11:25
QF958 17:45 - 18:25

Looking forward to hearing the details of the planned events :) Also, I'd like to put my name down for a seat on the bus please.

Hi guys

I have a conference to attend in MEL the following Mon-Wed, then present a paper at another conference in Las Vegas the following week. I have decided that we wont be attending (bugger).

Please take me off any attendee list :(

Ok it is starting to come together:

Friday night 07 Oct 1900 hours: Babers Cafe and Bar. Booking made. Always happy to split bills and take Amex.

Saturday morning breakfast Gus' cafe from 0800, great food but not happy to split bills. So turn up and say you're there by yourself but happy to sit next to a stranger. :p They also take Amex.

Now I am planning something that if it comes off will be good, however it is still in the planning stage and could be on either Saturday or Sunday. More info as it comes to hand.

For dinner I am looking at one of the clubs here in Canberra. For about $55 per person we can have a buffet dinner in a private room and pay for your own drinks. Is this of interest to people? We need at least 15 people, 20 would be better.

For the day tours on Saturday and Sunday I will post an itinerary as soon as I know about my event in planning.

As previously mentioned I am looking at hiring a 12 seater bus and driving people about as required. Again this would cost about $25-$30 per person for both days of the weekend. Final cost to be determined.

I would expect the weekend to finish about 1600 hours on Sunday afternoon. Again I can drive people to the airport if required.

Some of the sights planned for the driving trips include, the Royal Mint, Mt Ainslie, a drive through tour of Fyshwick (no using company credit cards please ;), nor will we wait) on the way to other sights. . Floriade is well worth a visit and like the other places mentioned is free. I will finalise the driving tour when I know the 'other event' timing.

More to come and look forward to seeing you all here.

Sorry to see you can't make it MunitalP.

Sounds great hvr, let me say thanks in advance in case I forget later.

Definitely keen on booking a seat on the bus. I'm also very keen on spending a couple of hours at the war memorial, haven't been there since I was a teenager.

Thanks HVR another starter for the bus, looking forward to it.

Staying at the Crowne Plaza, I was going to firm up the booking today, I wonder if anyone else is going to stay there.

No for the bus but yes for the restaurant ideas. Though 7pm might be a bit tight for dinner so will be late.

After pushing for the weekend in question I now have to withdraw unfortunately.

My fault entirely as I have double booked.
