Perth....... always gets left out!

That's because it's so far away from everywhere else!
...and expensive to get to. Having said that, I think Ozfest 10 is likely (as it is the only capital not to host it todate) to be held in Perth in May 2013. Not sure most of us would want to go to Perth for a Do twice in 7 months but having said that, this is exactly what is happening with Canberra.

As we are the A(ustralian)FFers, I personally believe we should exhaust the Australian cities / towns before we move Trans Tasman but this is only my opinion. As such, I think Hobart, Darwin, Perth, and other places like Sunshine Coast should be considered. As for dates, I will leave that can of worms to another time...just checked my diary, I'm likely to be OS from 8-22 Oct 2012, so AFF Gathering #6 is not looking good for me at this point:(

As a few might have been told, I’m planning something in Queenstown, but it’ll be much more of a one-off or not tied into the annual gathering as such. I am pretty much the local there, so I also don’t think it should be next years event, for this reason :p

I suppose the Gold Coast could possibly one day be an option in Australia, as we do have a Hilton, a Sheraton, a CP, etc… but I’d like to see Hobart on this list again, as that sounds like somewhere I’d like to go back to. And with the location, perhaps a date towards the end of October would suit more, to help everyone attend, and hopefully enjoy warmer weather…

And another location… Hunter Valley?

I've no objection to an offshore location for an AFF gathering, but as suggested a few posts back, I think it is probably appropriate to exhaust the major Oz locations (capital cities) before we venture o/s. Having had gatherings in MEL, ADL, SYD, BNE and CBR, that leaves (in no particular order of preference) DRW, HBA and PER. This does not exclude non-capital (e.g. CNS, OOL) but I'd be looking at the caps first. And I'd be happy with any of those next year. Ozfest in DRW may be too fresh in the mind for those who attended this year...if so it leaves PER and HBA. Decisions, decisions!

Back in Melbourne now (yes, I changed flights again!), and catching up with the thread. Just wanted to add my thanks to Hvr for his organisation of the weekend, and for Luisa and Jayne from American Express for coming along and talking about their products.

As for next year, I have no real objections to anywhere!

(But I also think any international destinations should be their own seperate thing!)

I would like to see Gold Coast to be considered an option for the 2012 (or future years) AFF Gathering. In 20 days they will be announcing weather the Gold Coast will be hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The city is most certainly going upmarket, I think it would be nice for AFF to check out the city, ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

(I'm saying this as somebody who is moving to Melbourne in the near future.)

Gold Coast sounds like a good idea for 2012.

For those who may be interested there is a NZ FT DO in December this year.
I only just saw this today. Unfortunately very short notice and I cannot get out of existing commitments. Will have to miss out seeing that part of New Zealand yet again.

Thanks for this post JohnK.

I saw that the DO was being postponed and did not go back to the thread. Now it's on again. Looks like I have to look at remaking the plans again that I just remade :!:

Could be nice when we have less construction on all the roads and perhaps even a tram service.

Also worth considering is this event usually happens in October, but that’s also about the time a bunch of racing cars land on the Gold Coast, which often means extremely bad traffic, road closures, high prices and difficulty getting around as they build up to the event.

*Bump*

Any update on this? Are we close to making a decision, should a new thread be started?

Double bump.

It would be nice to have an idea of location and dates so I can start looking at flights and accommodation :)

Quick flick back suggests the following possibilities:

Darwin
Hobart
Perth
Gold Coast
Townsville
Cairns
Hunter Valley

+ some NZ options (Queenstown Wellington Auckland)

Might need a poll!
