Does the Crowne (the old Travelodge), still have the revolving restaurant? Haven't been there in donkeys, but as I recall, it was better during the day than at night (better views).

Sorry penegal, I actually forgot you were coming up this weekend. I was going to try to catch up, but my attentions were elsewhere.......my +1s car is playing up (never buy a Merc) so we went out and bought her a new one yesterday (not a Merc ).

Yes it's still there and priority privilege benefits apply, it also does Breakfast on Sundays.

Yes, Four Winds is still there.
Fourwinds Revolving Restaurant | Seafood & Asian Inspired Buffet | Surfers Paradise

However I think we should steer away from it for the main event, as my personal experience is that the food is not particularly good. As with most revolving restaurants, the you pay for the view. YMMV.

(Sorry to ICH elites). Also, given coast's recent development, it's actually not a particularly "tall" building anymore.

I think that the Q1 option is worth exploring further for drinks (and views from somewhere high up)

I also have some business cards to follow up on.

No worries, it was a pretty quick visit. I had just enough time to visit some venues, have lunch (complete with a free glass of vino), visit Chilli (the dog) and fly to Melbourne in time for a house party.

What did you buy?

And in doing so, re-qualified for the illustrious club of those who fly to another city for lunch :p

Very boring I'm afraid. A new Hyundai Elantra. I'm sick of losing truck loads in devaluation and the Elantra won us for the comfort, space (for a small car) and best bit.....price. I lost $26k in devaluation with the Merc so I was not keen to do that again.

It's a club I'm very proud of to be a member... Although I'm still waiting for my membership card to arrive in the mail...

You forgot about the tiers.

Bronze = flying within one's country for lunch.
Silver = flying short haul for lunch (eg: to AKL)
Gold = flying med haul for lunch (eg: to HKG)
Platinum = flying long haul for lunch (eg: to CPH)

Platinum One is when you know what the airport codes are without looking them up.

I guess that makes me Platinum One... I have done all the above AND know what the airport codes are!!

Oh dear.

Does that make me a Gold One? I've flown to HKG for lunch (three times!) and I knew what all those airport codes were :p

I would also be a "Gold One".

I am yet to do Europe or USA for 'just' a lunch.

But I do know a lot of airport codes, and have flown to many of them :p

Well I'm Silver (AKL) AND Platinum One as I knew all the airport codes.

I'm going to Hobart for lunch next weekend, so that's Sliver right?

I've done Bronze many times; Silver several times (AKL, although lunch may have been partaken in the lounge once or twice) and Gold twice (Red-eye to HKG and red-eye Home).oh ... and Airport codes ...

I think this should be split into it’s own thread, complete with badges to be awarded and worn for the different tiers, but one’s own country would mean it’s Bronze, even as Tasmanians are different :p

P.s. If you stay the night it’s not lunch, it has to be a day trip effectively, lunch and home, less than 24 hours with no other meals :p

I have had lunch in CPH, and I knew the Airport codes.

What does that make me?

(play nice, now)

To bring this back ON-topic, I have found a few business cards in my various pockets from my lunch with samh004, and I am progressing some discussions with possible venues in the background.

I will post an update once things are a little more certain.

Given I am assisting Sam with organising this gathering, I should upgrade myself to be a Platinum attendee.

*bump*

Doesn't look like anybody has updated the attendees in post # 3 recently...:rolleyes::confused:

If you’d 'mod me up' I’d be happy to assist :p

I am proceeding with negotiations too and hope to have firm plans announced soon. I realise nothing has happened for a while so I hope to have something in concrete soon. Thanks :)

*bump*

Planning for this gathering is continuing, and we are hoping to get an announcement together in the next week or two.

This thread has been a bit bumpy , is there a lot of turbulence

Like all good dos, the organisation of events 3/6/9 months out is always a little turbulent.

We are trying to lock down ideas into a published program, so people can confirm their attendance and start to book things.
