BNE was a recent venue.

From memory, in order, past ones have been:

MEL
ADL
SYD
BNE
CBR

So I guess we're trying to share the love. :)

No probs at all just wondering,

That was my guess that it was a recent venue.

Given the time of year and the cough tourism conditions that have existed for some time I voted for CNS (the fact it has good Accor/Hilton and PC properties in the unlikely event an elite member might wish to come is irrelevant  ).

.... and Oct is a good time of year for weather in Cairns.

I can't see the poll on my iPhone but I recall Hobart was second choice after Hobart and I know jdevereux is dying to organise things for us.

I think from memory GC is in the poll, and it's worthwhile, but let's see what the build up to the Commonwealth Games brings first.

Queenstown was also on the previous poll and I'm happy to announce I will be organising a do there, probably in 2013. I'll be partnering with New Zealanders of course, but I have been an annual visitor there since age 8!

What is the usual format? One day? ME
et at an hotel?

Weekend. Friday night drinks + dinner. Saturday activities + lunch + drinks + dinner. Sunday activities + lunch and lounge meet as everyone leaves.

A weekend. Typically something like:

Friday night drinks/dinner
Saturday daytime activity (tailored to the area. e.g. ADL was a winery tour) which may include breakfast and/or lunch
Saturday dinner (usually the main event, sometimes featuring industry guests)
Sunday activity (usually incl. lunch, then people start drifting off to the airport to catch flights home)

It's variable, but the above is a reasonably typical layout. One can attend one event or all of them, just depends on your availability and inclination (though of course many events require a commitment beforehand).

Accommodation is a personal choice, though many attendees end up staying at the same hotel.

What are we thinking folks, should we go with the poll results, or open up discussion for more choices of destinations and discussion?

The sooner we pick the destination the sooner we can start planning things.

Maybe we need to call for nominations from the organisers from each city.

Then every city which has at least two organisers is invited to submit a bid of what they can offer and then we can bid on those offers.

I am not going to vote as in October I know i will be working.however if it is early october i probably would be working at DPO and almost certainly could swap weekends if necessary to attend.I could also help with the organising if wished because at least I will be in Tassie.

Having now made it to a computer I have gone with Hobart, with Perth as a backup… I’m not going with the Gold Coast as I honestly think it’s only just started to become relevant and I believe waiting to see how things play out would be a better idea.

I’m not sure two organisers per city should make up the minimum as a good organiser can do very well on their own sometimes ;)

There is most likely to be a Flyer Talk DO in Queenstown this year.

Happy to help organizing if it's a CNS do.

But there's no shortage of CNS local knowledge on AFF so I'm sure we'd be able to notch something up :).

Just bear in mind that early Oct is still regarded as peak season. Late Oct and anytime Nov will be better value (and probably better weather)!

Yes I’d heard about that, but I know sometimes the sites don’t have the same member base, so was planning an AFF Do based on AFF members desires to visit. That and my infinite knowledge of the area and connections to a few restaurants and bars :p

Spring and Autumn would be the best times for a Do in Queenstown because of the relatively low cost of accommodation and less visitors, plus the weather in those months is often quite nice… not that I didn’t have a lovely bottle of red with jswong in the sun last year in the middle of winter.

I like the idea of ZQN

Have one in Perth!

Not much exciting happens this side of the country, i'll be happy to assist in organizing a do :)
