Just wanted to add my voice to thank JessicaTam, samh004, jdeveraux3 and others for organising such a great event. I know from experience that when things go so smoothly (as they did), a great deal of planning was done.

And thanks also to all those who attended! Without your attendance - planning or no planning - the event would have flopped! I'm sure you all had as good a time as I did!

I think I got to meet to everyone. If not, I apologise, and look forward to chatting at our next event.

Thanks to everyone for making a novice feel welcome and especially to Jess and the other organisers for a fun packed weekend. I am already looking forward to the next gathering.

I would like to add to the thanks offered by those above.

Thank you to penegal, jdevereux3 and samh004 for their work in the fore and back ground to enable the event to run so smoothly. I am indebted to samh004 for his work in rustling up the QF points from Qantas, and to straitman for obtaining the VA caps. Straitman also did a large amount of work in the background in an effort to obtain a guest speaker. Speaking of which (pun intended), thank you to admin for stepping up at the last minute for an insight into the history of AFF.

To the venues, thanks for putting up with my constant phone calls.

For the prizes, thanks must go to Qantas, Virgin Australia, admin, Richard de Crespigny, straitman and samh004 for their generosity.

I have emailed Red Roo with the details of the three winners, so your points should arrive soon:

15,000 points jdevereux3
10,000 points hazel (who only decided to come the day before)
5,000 points straitman (who may have to share them with straitman +1)

I hope that I have the following correct, but apologies if not:

QF32 autographed by Richard de Crespigny - Doug_Westcott

iHug travel pillow - oz_mark

Founder's Museum posters - blackcat20, admin, tuapekastar and Cat207

VA cap and AFF Super Smart Tag - everyone at dinner

Finally, but most importantly, I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to everyone who came along, as without you AFF #7 would not have been the success it was.

The question was asked as to who would be organising AFF #8 - All I can say is "Bags not me"! Although I would like to visit CNS. ;)

Looked like and sounds like an amazing event, I really wish I could of made it!

CNS could be nice, or how about we take it all the way up to Thursday island? :P

You say that now.... :p

IF AFF #8 happens to be in CNS then I'm happy to help.

Organising (cat herding) 20-30 AFFers has got to be easier than the 59 (or so) I had to herd for Oz Fest #6, Cairns 2009. (Half of them are the same people anyway)

Our esteemed moderator straitman will be co-ordinating all the activities for AFF #8 which is now to be held in CNS next year.

Now I wonder how long it will be before my post is 'redacted'?:mrgreen:

When will it be? I've got a wedding invite to Hamilton Island in September & it would be awesome to combine the two!

They said December would be too late for an AFF gathering previously, when they were held in October, so it's possible September could be chosen, it's certainly a spot where a winter month could be nicer, but depends what activities are offered too.

I've got a 5 day break in CNS in mar, staying at the HI. I can perform preliminary recon on what CNS can offer us if need be?

September is nice in Cairns, and it has the benefit of having some decent hotels.

That could be 2 strikes from Straitman.
