How about the nations capital or even NZ? Queenstown could be fun as could AKL

Canberra was AFF #5, so it's a bit soon for a return visit.

I'm firmly in the camp that a ZQN do could happen, but the problem is making it work in a weekend, as that's what the gatherings have always been. The direct flights are often on a weekend, which means half the day is already gone!

Why fly direct when you can connect?

What about Alice Springs? :p :p :p

All points taken! Hmmm, not easy to plan an AFF gig!

Where have all the previous ones been held?

Could a run out to LRE work?

And in saying all this cairns is great as well.

Maybe if it is cairns we could hop down to TSV for a day on the VA milk run

Could a run out to LRE work?

LRE has been floated as an option in the past.

This would be very appropriate to AFF. The challenge with LRE is that QF only operate one flight a day ex-BNE (a Q400), and getting 20-30+ "cheap" seats may be hard, although if QF were to come to the party with a "group rate" this could be a good one.

I had wondered about the frequency into LRE, it'd be sacrilege to get there anyway but on an aircraft

Now if only someone had some contacts and chartering a dash 8 300 became possible and affordable :p

You do realise that there are no points or SC earned for any QF charter flights?

Maybe AFF #10 would be suitable, and could give us enough time to foster a relationship with the appropriate yield manager!

Actually, I have just had a thought - WP and P1 should just call up and request lots of award seats for their 'family members', because any AFF do is a family reunion, of course.

In regards to LRE, as I have a pretty good relationship with the museum and some board members (including those who might work for the Red Roo) I am going to get an event organised at some stage, probably stand alone though.

In terms of visiting TSV if CNS was chosen, I'd highlight the idea that was briefly floated of conducting events in BNE at the OOL event... You generally choose a host city and focus on it. If there's not enough to do, perhaps you venture further afield, but TSV is a lot further afield.

I'm still liking CNS best out of all the suggestions so far.

My suggestion was going to be AYQ because the silver service dinner in the desert is an amazing experience, but I realise that there is already a FF gathering there next year.

We can still do it one weekend maybe. Suitably stupid and fun thing to do :)
