Before we all get too excited about Sep, I think an AFF VIP may already have travel plans for Sep and no I don't mean me.

The Cairns AFF members are surprisingly quite re this discussion, especially as we have quite a few including a lounge dragon.

Will QF still be flying to CNS by September next year.

*** Announcement ***

Our esteemed moderator straitman will be co-ordinating all the activities for AFF #8 which is now to be held in CNS next year.

*** End announcement ***

Now I wonder how long it will be before my post is 'redacted'?:mrgreen:
Never mind the post being redacted, I have just been advised that my account may be permanently deleted!:oops::oops:
;)

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Plan B is that your expertise could be used to help those organising next years event no matter when or where it is held.

I guess I could manage a spreadsheet...

Another FT member and I put many hours into the Cairns FT get together of a few years ago which Straitman referred to above. This time I would be of very limited assistance as I'll be in Europe and elsewhere from mid-January to the beginning of July. Life is tough for me :) There are others up here that might be prevailed upon to help.

I'd offer a little bit of advice though. In picking dates you need to take into account what is happening in Cairns. The G20 Finance Ministers' Meeting is here from 18-21 September. Apart from the security aspect which I think will be a major imposition (good time for a local to leave), hotels will be at a premium. Just checking the Hilton it appears to be block booked out from the 16-22 September. Other hotels will be the same.

Victorian, NSW and Queensland school holidays look as if they are all from September 20-October 7 in 2014 and they put a lot of pressure on accommodation in terms of both availability and price. Restaurants, reef trips etc. also get stretched and air fares will be at the high end.

And there appear to be conferences at the Convention Centre from August 30-September 3 and September 10-13 each with more than 800 delegates. That will again put pressure on accommodation etc.

I'd advise to look at having the meeting in August rather than September or indeed go for later in October. Mid-late October is usually warm to hot but not insanely humid and I reckon it is the most stable weather of the year.

Anyway, just some thoughts to throw into the mix.

Thanks turtlemichael :)

Great info.

I definitely want to avoid the G20. They close streets, which is super annoying. I once had a $20 taxi ride become a $40 taxi ride due to road closures and unusual traffic conditions.

From a completely selfish point of view, I prefer for AFF#8 to be held in October (?Cairns) as I will be in Russia for most of September 2014.

Mid-October would likely *not* suit me. I will quite likely be in HBA of all places.

Edit: If in Tasmania, dates likely to be about 16 Oct thru 26 Oct.

Mid-Late October would suit me as well . Don't forget we have footy finals in September up until 1st weekend in October , that i know plenty AFF'ers attend also . Just another consideration .
