((feeling guilty for missing the MEL one)) - don't know how I missed this - Good time for us to take a break, and loving the Qantas 3x points on the hotels... Will put it to the missus, and likely turn it into a week or 2 holiday. We've been talking about Tassie for a while now, checked my roster and 2 weeks will only cost me 60 hours of leave (woo hoo!). She's on night shift as we speak (grumpy), will put it to her when she's more coherent, put us down as gold.. (been a while since I had gold status anywhere).

Newbie golfer question... do "couple of rounds a year" types generally take their clubs? Or rent them at the course? Pretty fond of my sticks, but thinking of the "pain in the ar$e" factor here...

Depends what ticket you get to HBA/ what status you have with an airline ;)

Was thinking more along the lines of lugging the things around while on a week or 2 away, not the ticketing.

I can see how that would be tricky, perhaps if you rent a car with good boot space, as you'll probably need a car to see Tasmania.

Participants updated to here (though maybe not updated on thread).

Good to have you on board :)

FYI - There should be another couple of Melbourne drinks nights between now and this do. I just haven't picked the dates yet :p

Traditionally I prefer to play with my own clubs. This is cheaper and I like the 'feel' of my clubs. Unfortunatly it does mean that you have to lug them around wherever you go. This is less of an issue if you hire a car (or take your car on the ferry), but if taking public transport or taxis, carrying a set of clubs can be a real PITA.

To be honest, I probably could hire clubs more often. Hire clubs tend to be of a good standard now. At AFF4 someone hired a set of clubs, which were probably better than mine :o

Thanks Penegal, hope to make the next melbourne one(s) - shift work can be a PITA at times though.. I dare say we'll hire a car at some point (Tas) so might as well bring the sticks, I do like them. Doubt we'll need to check more than one bag in on the plane.

Will put the Hobart trip to SWMBO when she comes off nights during the week..

I won't be able to attend, I'm flying to HKG on the 29th of November :(

I only discovered this thread yesterday! Epic fail...

Put me down as Gold for now, with a 99% chance of changing to Platinum (I just want to check prices for flights and accom etc etc before saying yes) :)

I see there are already a few people putting together an itinerary for the event, though if you need any help with co-ordinating everybody, or logistics etc etc, then I'm happy to help! In full disclosure, I have never actually been to HBA (thus why I want to go), so any help that I could offer would be more organisational rather than destination-based. :)

I have been invited to a friend's wedding in coughet that weekend and as I will be going to that, I will be a scratchy to this event :(

The last I spoke to jdevereux3 he seemed to have the weekend pretty much sorted, including coaches, and was going to talk to the venues to make sue they're onboard. So despite a lack of updates, things are progressing. We're basically 6 months away!

In the Winter 2013 (edition 16) Spirit magazine, found on QFLink flights, there's an interesting article on Hobart (pg. 23). I know the details of the event have been more or less chosen, though haven't yet made it to this thread in concrete form. That said, if you're planning to visit for longer than the weekend, a few more ideas such as TMAG look interesting.

Interestingly noted in the article is that there are 12 golf courses within an hours drive of Hobart, and all you need to do is give them a call to check there's no comps on and rock up. This is conflicting with some of the info posted in this thread, so I'm just pointing it out, perhaps we can call around and pick a suitable course for the AFF Championship?

ah, time to have a look at this. sorry, I've been a bit busy. Am looking at flights tonight. LOL the bargains seem to have been snapped up

There'll probably be another sale. Last one seemed decent, so just need to wait it out. :)

I was thinking all the AFFers have taken all the low price/award buckets out of play. It isn't quite that bad. My main thing will to work on the domestic permissions.

A post one or two above about golf has caught my eye
