You couldn't fly Tiger

And I wouldn't have... if the flight left 5 minutes earlier I could fly Jetstar (on a price match) for the princely sum of $54. Such a shame!

Current QF sale doesn't cover the dates either, so have to wait a little bit longer to book.

You couldn't fly Tiger

I'm wondering if this comment was meant to have a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark after. It changes the meaning and I'm unsure whether or not to smile ;).

ie:

"You couldn't fly Tiger." Statement of fact.
"You couldn't fly Tiger!" Statement of horror.
"You couldn't fly Tiger?" Sarcasm/humour (or less likely....a genuine question).

Option D: All of the above. :)

Hearing reports from my Cairns Facebook connections of a free bus city to airport starting today. That might be useful for those needing to fly tiger.

It's only a 3 month trial from what I know of. We'll see if it's still around come October.

Also constructing a footpath from the highway to airport after a fatality to a lady who decided to walk the (long) road out.
Your choice of crocs, midgies, sandflies and sun to accompany you during your stroll.

The lady was the wife of a good friend of mine. Since then there has been someone else hit also.

I'm not surprised. I've walked it - twice. It was not that far from where I was once staying in CNS - a 20 min walk. But it's very dangerous in parts. Considering the car stops along the way with walks from them, I thought it was very odd.

Yes and it's a farce. The Cairns Post had an article just the other day about it. The proposed route is from the airport, along Airport Drive to the highway (I think) in a continuous loop and nowhere else. So to get from Cairns city, a pax would have to lug their luggage onto a regular bus service for the 10 minute run to the airport turnoff and then change there for the free airport service (which would take about 3 minutes from there to the airport). A taxi is about $25 each way from airport to Hilton but my preferred option is hire car, which is usually not much more than a taxi. I wouldn't like to walk it in November unless you want to lose weight and stink during the flight home! The footpath has not yet started as far as I can see, so I wouldn't like to assume it'll be done by November.

straitman, I have known the lady's father for 30+ years, a very sad story.
My deep condolences to you. I have often seen airport workers biking along this road, plus the odd walker, and have concerns for their safety.

straitman and tuapekastar, that is very sad. I did a Google search and located the story. Surely if they can build a wetlands walk, they can build a cycle path & pedestrian walkway to the highway. Certainly her death shouldn't be in vain

Thanks guys, I never met his daughter but feel sad for all the family members. Yes QF WP, they should build a pedestrian-friendly/safe access, ASAP.

According to the Cairns Post article, the council are stalling. Admittedly, the bike path/walkway would require a fair bit of work including a bridge over the creek and raising up to road level for the entire distance to thwart the high tides and flood waters (not to forget crocodiles). It would not be a cheap exercise.

What, versus some signage that they think, if installed, would make people not make the walk?? Prevention is the best, so make the walk a nice one (for those that feel they need to make it, over being picked up by a car, or taking a taxi). [I'm not sure whether bus could be added to that list, as its been a long while since I've been to CNS]

Getting a bit OT here but a foopath/bikeway may be difficult (exxy) to construct as the airport road is raised above the lowland area and acts as a levee in storm surges etc. I've seen plans of a proposed parallel runway situated to the east of RWY 15 which will require destruction of mangroves (not mangoes) and not sit well with the locals.

Which locals? Oh that vast vocal minority that seems to get their way all the time....?

Aren't they the same ones that protested the construction of the Sky Rail back in the early '90s (I remember it vividly), and yet, it has provided a great way for many people to experience the rainforest very little impact on the rainforest itself.

I was involved in the Skyrail proposal as part of the QLD Govt NPWS back then and it certainly was a vocal minority (Manfred et al). Mention mangrove removal and it gets exciting again. There's no short term proposal for a CNS parallel runway but there if required in the future.
