AFF Gathers: In Melbourne!! [1-3 August 2008]

I've made a tentative booking at Rydges Melbourne (186 Exhibition St) for $207/night (PriorityGuest rate). Really would prefer to stay at one of the PC hotels, but not wanting to pay $375+/night there. Hilton on the Park is another option, but it's out of the way and I wasn't too happy with my stay there last time. If they put me in a non-refurbished room, then I'd be even more disappointed.

I was going to suggest the Eureka Skydeck as an option for something to do, but realise it's already been raised! Instead, even though Lygon St has gone somewhat out of fashion as a place to hang out, I think one of the Italian restaurants there could be an option for a dinner - but can't recommend any!

Yes, had a look at some hotel options myself, and my response to seeing what the CP and HI were was WTF :) Certainly won't be staying there at those rates!

Please add me as interested. It happens that I have meetings in MEL that week until Thursday.

I'm more likely able to be present for activities on Friday than the weekend, so the dinner & drinks should be Friday :D .

Dinner & drinks will definitely occur both Friday and Saturday evenings. :)

Speaking of which, shouldn't we have a OC meeting? I mean, we rearly should have at least 5 to 10 dressed rehersals on the dinner and drinks thing....

I was going to organise something for the next week, after I get through my assignments that are due Monday... Not to mention internal party elections on this weekend (thank god for only 2 hours this time)... fun for the whole family. :-|

Not sure what your group dining requirements are, however thought I'd let you know that I have a restaurant in the Melbourne CBD, which is quite popular and has received critical acclaim. I wont mention the name now as I dont want to be guilty of "advertising". Let me know if you would like some info.

In regards to hotels, I think the selection comes down to max acceptable cost and area/precinct that visitors would like to be based in. Maybe posters could include that info to assist.

And, I hope to be able to make it along, notwithstanding that Fri/Sat nights are "peak period" for me.

Friendly reminder of the DJ offer in case anyone's missed my earlier post:

Stop press!!

We've received a very kind offer from crazydave98 of Virgin Blue who is willing to organise a group deal on Premium Economy seats. This of course includes access to The Lounge. Pending the level of interest of course.

So if you're from interstate and want in on this - please indicate your interest ASAP. That includes RSVPing of course if you've not done so already. ;)

Would you care to post the details of the offer including cost of airfare or is the cost of airfare only available by PM?

Am just trying to guage the level of interest at this stage.

I'm interested as well, QF009. Wouldn't be flying DJ down. Would love to go to probably the Fri night AFL game (serfty?). Will arrange client meetings probably the Thursday & Friday. I'll confirm once they are set in place

Stop press 2!

If there's a part of this event you can't miss, it's dinner on Saturday 2nd of August - dine with a Virgin Blue executive!

That's right. Phil Gunter, GM of Virgin Blue's FFP Velocity has kindly accepted our invitation to join us for dinner. This is your opportunity to gain an insight as to the operation of Velocity, and also Virgin Blue in general.

Please also note that we've attempted to get a range of industry representatives involved. Virgin Blue is not merely the only airline to respond, they've also been extremely supportive and enthusiastic about engaging with AFF.

And I am just trying to gauge whether I will be interested or not. ;)

I am interested for Saturday evening only.

What is also of interest is one of the two international flights that depart from Melbourne to Sydney on the Sunday morning; QF73 or QF187.

Now I just need to find a plat who is interested in catching either of those 2 flights.

Pity I'm not a Plat any more Bundy Bear, I might be interested in some Jlounging though (a little MR MEL/SYD/MEL for the day)

If there's room for this NZ'er without single post (apart from this one) I will be there on August 2nd (staying at the Langham)
