If there's room for this NZ'er without single post (apart from this one) I will be there on August 2nd (staying at the Langham)

Jeff

Welcome to AFF mate, and you're more than welcome to rock along. :D

As posted on the blog, here's a draft itinerary:

Friday 1 August:

Welcome drinks: Belgian Bier Cafe

Saturday 2 August:

Start the day by going up Eureka Skydeck 88

Lunch cruise

Mid afternoon coffee: venue TBC

Dinner with an airline executive: venue TBC

Post dinner drinks: tentatively at Crofts Institute (subject to the outcome of an OC dress rehearsal ;)) ----> possibly a pub/club crawl

Sunday 3 August [late flights out recommended]

Tram 96 to St Kilda Beach, followed by brunch on Acland St: Greasy Joe's

An AFL game will be fit in somewhere: TBC

Subject to change....

FWIW, Collingwood play Hawthorn on the Friday evening and Essendon Play Melbourne on Saturday Afternoon, both at the MCG .

On the NRL side of things, Melbourne Storm host Gold Coast Titans some time that weekend at Olympic Park. (Possibly Sunday afternoon)

serfty, after watching the Pies thump the Dons (and backing the Pies  by only 20  ), I'd love to make the Fri night game. More interested in watching the AFL than NRL.

Welcome to AFF, jswong. A perpetual FT meeting attendee ;)

What is wrong with the St Kilda vs Port Adelaide game at Telstra Dome on Sunday at 2:10pm?

QF009, if you are organising a pub/club crawl for late Saturday night please discard any places with a cover charge. There is no way I am paying someone to have a drink in their establishment. OK, I lie. I will pay someone to have a drink in their establishment but they must be able to offer a lot more than just a drink....

There are a few, err, 'Gentlemen's Clubs' around Melbourne that may interest you :)

Nah. I would be content having a few drinks on a pub/club crawl with the rest of the crowd as long as I do not have to line someone elses pocket with wasted money on cover charges.

I have never really been keen on cover charges myself. Haven't noticed any at the bars I have been to in Mel, but then there's quite a few places I haven't been to yet.

The 'G is where it's at for Ozzy Rules! Also seating with a reasonable view is far better value.

Concerns RE cover charges noted.

I usually go to Love Machine on Friends of Dorothy nights. Cover charge is $20. But totally worth it - the DJs are awesome and the atmosphere is electric.

I'm still pondering on whether the pub/club crawl is a good idea as dinner is likely to go on for a while. So we might just have drinks, then those who are keen to party the night away cango on to check out a few different places.

For the AFL match to work out - obviously it's best if people state their preferred game. Sunday could work if people want to fly out late. But I understand the appeal of the MCG games.

May I suggest a game on Friday or Sunday so at least a handful would attend the Saturday arvo activities? ;)

I think there'll be two distinct groups in this AFF meet....one that is in tune with QF009 (younger, nightclubbers etc) and the older set (like me, JohnK, etc - happier with a few beers at a decent club/pub and a quieter night). Just don't cater for one to the exclusion of the other QF009, otherwise they'll be two AFF events each day....

Rest assured that both groups seem to be well represented on the OC, which I trust to keep me in check. ;)

Put me down as a Sandgroper that is interested in coming.

Edit: I will be like LW and JohnK, in that I will be very happy with pub type setup and quieter nights :)

PS. Any other Sandgropers going? Perhaps we can start drinking early on an Arvo (free beer) cityflyer.

I am much more a pub man than a club man these days (hence my lack of finding cover charges so far I guess), and certainly if you are on a crawl you wouldn't want to be paying too many cover charges along the way.

There are some nice bars around that don't cause your eardrums to explode...

I would have to listen to your advice as I have not been to either ground. Anyway Essendon vs Melbourne on Saturday afternoon may have more appeal after watching that awful St Kilda performance against Port Adelaide on Saturday night. Get rid of Ross Lyon and allow the team to return to one of the best free flowing attacking teams in the competition instead of attempting to play defensive football.

Don't know if this has been raised, but how about a Go-karting session on Saturday morning/early afternoon?

Some of you may be fast at flying ;) but rest assured I think I can be faster at driving :D

Also the G - nice place - been there only once in my life when SYD v WCE in 2005 AFL GF. Memorable Win being a Sydney fan!

Can those who're interested in attending an AFL game please state what game/s they're interested in?

Would be nice to get a consensus on this one so I can insert it into the schedule. :)

Sorry if I have missed it but is there a draft schedule?

What is happening Sunday afternoon? I may still decide to go and watch the boring team play as I have never seen them play live. :(
