v8Statesman, I'd suggest you look at post #62 and see if anything else that is on the suggested draft plan suits you...then again, I'm sure tht as it's a draft, it's open for additions or changes...

Looks good. I may just incorp this into my AKL holiday :)

Just to put all the games at the one spot to help:

Round 18

Fri 1/8 Collingwood v Hawthorn @ MCG - kick off 7.40pm
Sat 2/8 Essendon v Melbourne @ MCG - kick off 2.10pm
Sat 2/8 Geelong v Richmond @ Telstra Dome - kick off 7.10pm
Sun 3/8 St Kilda v Port Adelaide @ Telsta Dome - kick off 2.10pm

My number 1 choice is still the Fri night game. Sat arvo would be 3rd choice. Sat night would be out as the dinner is the main event of the whole weekend. Sun arvo would be 2nd choice.

1st & 2nd choice for me are interchangeable, as it will depend whether I come down to MEL for work on the Thurs/Fri or Mon/Tues. But I would prefer to see a match at the G, rather than Telstra Dome (been to both, but not for an AFL match!)

I'm also all for the Friday night game, there's nothing quite like Friday night footy @ The G.

Unfortunately for me tonight, it's Friday Night Footy @ Subiaco... Eagles V Carlton, will be interesting given it's Juddy's first visit back.

I think the start time just about rules me out of attending this game. :(

Still on for the Sunday game to watch the inconsistent Saints play....

Generally wouldn't get away from the ground till 5/5.30pm... my flight is at 18:40 - so would probably be cutting it a bit fine for my liking...

I'm not into footy. Heresy in MEL, I know :).

If the Friday night game kicks off at 1940h, what time are drinks at the Belgian Beer Cafe? It might be tight.

At best I'm only going to be in MEL for the Friday night but free quite early that afternoon.

I'd certainly like to meet other AFF'ers at drinks. My preference would then be to move on to dinner either with some other similarly interested people or bale and catch up with other folk.

And.. looks like I did well. 8 hours after I booked my flights, an e-mail arrived in my inbox telling me there was a sale for those dates

I'd love to come, however I'll be working in Beijing from late July to late August, and i don't think I'll be allowed to fly back for the weekend! So please have a drink for me!:p

Nick

p.s. MCG is the best venue to watch a game from!

I am not a footy fan either, so drinks and dinner with other non footy people would be good :)

Hmm, I don't even know what a Victorian is called (Sandgropers, Croweaters, BananaBenders, TopEnders I know, but what is a Victorian?)

P.S. I identify myself as a Sandgroper as well (even if I lost my Sunny Sandgroper a long time ago...)

There is a term used to call metal by product after welding. Perhaps that would work:rolleyes::lol::shock:

Edit (before I get flamed, the comment is made completly in jest :P)

I am anticipating a 2030ish start for the drinks; that can be easily changed depending on what footy match people pick. However we wouldn't want drinks to start too late either lest some of us have an early bedtime or die of thirst waiting. ;)

I'm sure we can accommodate both the match and the drinks if people pick a Friday evening game - those who don't want to attend footy can simply start drinking earlier.

I am not a crazy fan of footy so I don't know the appeal or lack thereof of the variety of matches that are on. However purely from an organisational perspective and given the optional nature of Saturday daytime events and if people are willing to fly out lateish on Sunday, Saturday arvo and Sunday arvo would be most conducive times for attending footy.

Anyone from south of the border is called a Mexican.

And which border is used in the definition depends on whether you are a coughroach or a cane toad ;).

QF009, I've been a "definite" since the start...just which side of the weekend I'll be there (Thu/Fri or Mon/Tue) is the only point of conjecture.

I used to have a Sunny Sandgroper as well (long gone by now of course). There is a note about this on wikipedia...
In the 1980s, The television station TVW Channel 7 in Perth, Western Australia released a stuffed toy sandgroper for sale named "Sunny The Sandgroper", with proceeds going towards Telethon. "Sunny Sandgroper" was then used as a regular character, along with Fat Cat and Percy P Penguin, in TVW-7's 'Earlybirds' morning children's show.
I wonder how much you would get for one of those on ebay? BTW, I never realised that a sandgroper is a real animal.
