Hi all,

Has anyone found some good rates for accommodation for those dates?

(As much as I like the place) I can't afford to pay $300+ per night for Westin MEL :-|

Still working out my travel plans.

Hi all,

Has anyone found some good rates for accommodation for those dates?

I've got a booking at Rydges Melbourne $207/night. Would prefer to stay at the HolidayInn or Crowne Plaza hotel, but they are both ~$340 (Entertainment Card rate which probably won't earn points) or around ~$340 prepaid or ~$380 flexible.

I think $207 is too much for Rydges, but hotel prices look pretty mad for that weekend. Anyone would think the F1 was on or something - but I could be out of touch with hotel rates in Melbourne!

I thought the same. And geez, when I looked last week, HI was 245

The HI at the airport currently shows advance purchase at $153 and flexible at $170 if that's any help.
The HI on Flinders currently shows advance purchase at $293 and flexible at $325.

I also have a couple of member for a stay vouchers that people could use at the Hilton. These would bring the Hilton on the Park price down to $205 for advance purchase and $236 for fully flexible and the airport Hilton to $188 for advance purchase and $212 for fully flexible.
The Skybus costs $26 return to the airport.

Another site that may prove useful though I have not used it is Ubid4rooms
It looks rather like wotif to me.

Might have to drive down and sleep in my car at these rates

Ps. those Hilton rates look v tempting, maybe try out Hilton Racing to Gold status?

Will anyone else be staying @ the Hilton on the Park... if so, I'd be happy to take you up on your offer, straitman

I may also have some member for a day cards for the hilton.
I will have to check on the weekend.
So if more people are interested just let us know here.

I think I'll just settle for The Victoria Hotel Melbourne An All Seasons Hotel > Melbourne, Australia - at $125/night I can live with that, especially given I'll hardly be at the hotel anyway...
I stayed there in January and thought the rooms were ordinary but could be a reasonable option if only going to sleep in the room for the night.

Has anyone from AFF made a booking at these hotels? Looking at room rates for Saturday night and notice that the room rates have increased for HI On Flinders and both Hiltons.

Back to the footy for a tick....

There is a slim possibility that I can get a TD corporate box for sunday free - yup, thats right... FREE!

Heres the catch - we would have to take a drinks / food package. I can find out more if I know numbers therfore the cost of a package...

Please email me if you are interested in THE BOX!!! Theres nothing like watching footy from a BOX

Hmm... interested in that, may have to leave 1 quarter early though, so as to get to the airport in time...

This could be the reason for the price of accomodation...

If I have to watch footy, this is how I want to do it :P

The writers' festival is also on, though not sure how big that one is.

Interesting, as the rates for HI on Flinders are now cheaper than last night :!:
Advanced Purchase is now $275 and Flexible is $305 for standard room or king bed superior. Still over the top in my opinion.
HI Airport are still $153 and Flexible is $170 for a king bed superior.

Hilton on the Park price is the same as last night at $205 for advance purchase and $236 for fully flexible and the airport Hilton to $188 for advance purchase and $212 for fully flexible. (This is for 2 people at list price minus 20%)

At this stage I plan to stay there on one or both nights though not sure which just yet. I've made a tentative booking for both nights.
Flashware you are welcome to one of the cards if you wish.

The hotel room rates seem to be fluctuating like the stock market.

When I looked earlier on the HI on Flinders had rooms at $311 for advance purchase and $345 for fully flexible. The room rates have now dropped to below your original quotes and are at $275 for advance purchase and $305 for fully flexible. The HI airport has remained the same.

Taking into consideration the 20% member for a stay discount the Hilton on the Park for Saturday night has a King Hilton guest room at $195 for advance purchase and $224 for fully flexible and the airport Hilton has a King Hilton guest room at $180 for advance purchase and $204 for fully flexible.

Hi all
I'm interested in joining you for drinks and dinner if the offer is still open
