AFF Luggage tags - some ideas

Just bought 4 tags, with my Amex, sent to my PO Box.

Maybe to sell more we can have a sliding scale of tags. They can be different colours to indicate how many posts you've made to the forum. As you reach a new level you'd have to replace your tags.

Brass- up to 1000 posts

Chrome - 1001 - 9999 posts

Titanium - 10000 - 19999

Concierge - 20000 posts and above and your name on the side of a check in booth.

LOL:mrgreen:

I don't think that would be economically viable.

Can you imagine members doing status runs to reach the next level of AFF? They'd end up with writers cramp sending all those posts!

ps - I did put a LOL at the end of the post.

I have a terribly bad headache at the moment after having very little sleep the past 2 nights, so not paying much attention to detail!

That's OK - I'm just doing a run to get to my 300th post. What do I get for that? A Kewpie doll?

Strange. My delivery address is a PO box.

I put my PO box address as special instructions. Hopefully munitalP will get it, unless he is scripting the creation of our tags for mailing labels/envelopes, then it will be moot.

I'm guessing it will be a somewhat manual process...... I just put my home address, couldn't be bothered faffing around with my 2 PO Boxes.

I'm in for 2.

As my Australian PO Box redirects overseas, there is a small possibility Aus Post will refuse to redirect the letter and return to sender (They have that right if they think a letter might contain something that needs a customs declaration etc). But I've received many weird and wonderful things, so shouldn't be a hassle. If it is - I'll deal with the situation then. Much easier than trying to sort out posting overseas etc.

As cool as it would be, I’m guessing it’s one design per 500-run, so it wouldn’t be possible to add subscription, posting or mod levels to the design. Shame, but we’re not made of money, or I’m not :p

I just bought 2....if we are short of the required number, I'm prepared to buy a couple more later on:idea:

I’d say we should be just under 100 tags sold now, assuming everyone who bought also posted in this thread. Will be interesting to see how the number differs though.

So, ⅕ to the goal.

That is still some way to go. I know it has only been going for around a week but most of the regulars who wanted AFF luggage tags have already ordered.

Cannot see a sudden surge in orders from the occasional posters on AFF. What happens if the target is not reached?

Don't give up yet. The last update was 72 in the first afternoon, so there may have been plenty over the weekend.

As the 100 or so ordered already will reduce the capex a reasonable amount, I have a feeling there may be a person (or two) willing to put in the extra who will then hold onto any stock leftover.

Great news everyone!

ADMIN has thrown his might, his wisdom and is financially behind the project for the AFF luggage tags and has offered to help financing the project based upon a couple of rules: (thanks ADMIN!)

1. Our design which is accepted for production must include the web address of AFF and final approval will be based on the web address being on the tag
2. We set a point in the future (2 or so weeks) where we look at to see if this is a self funding project or a failure cost wise - if it is a failure and we cannot raise a fair portion of the costs within the set period, we will can the project and any monies collected will be refunded (remembering that ADMIN is financially supporting the difference)
3. We will operate through a PayPal account I have set up so there is easy means to refund monies if the project is a flop

Looking at how many members have currently purchased tags based on postings, and what the difference would be now between the purchase price and how much is collected; I would say this should be going ahead.

IMO anything around the 1k mark (which is well and truly less now due to what has been purchased) admin should be happy to fund as

  1. essentially free advertising for the site, thus more revenue due to increased use
  2. business expense anyway
  3. the remainder of the tags will eventually be sold
So considering the revenue the site would be earning (admin would not be running all this for very slim margin ) it's a rather small investment.

Speculation aside, a page selling them to anyone who comes along eventually would be a good thing. Might be just that little bit more work though ;) sending them out and such.
