Computershare

Recently I forgot my Computershare login password. No worries I thought. Just click on reset password and I'll get an email message telling me how to reset electronically. How wrong I was. Got a message saying I will get a temporary password by snail-mail. WTF.

A week or so after that I purchased some shares in one of Australia's largest companies, which uses Computershare to manage its shareholder base. A few days later I received a CHESS statement and a letter asking me to login to CPU and complete my shareholder registration details including a bank account to which dividend payments would be forwarded.

Another letter arrived, dated 13 September, confirming my bank account details, so I thought all was set for the div due 21 September to be sent to my bank.

Yesterday - nothing, today - nothing. On checking my account in CPU I found the payment amount was listed with a status of 'unpresented' WTF, It took me around 20 seconds to realise they're sending a cheque, even though they had my bank account details.

I expect a cheque will take another week to arrive, and then I have to get it to the bank, while we are in the ACT lockdown and then it has to be cleared before the funds are available. Just thankful that I'm not hanging out for the cash.

Anyone else had similar dealings with CPU or am I just unlucky?

Similar experiences. There system is a disaster.

I came across the founder of computershare a few years ago. He didn't seem to fussed when I mentioned how archaic, albeit secure, his processes are. Although he advised he sold quite a share of his company many years ago. I don't think they've changed anything since.

@rogerkambah no I haven't had that sort of experience with CPU but it may be worth checking if your bank accepts check deposit via their mobile app. At least a couple of the big 4 do. Much easier than trying to go to a branch.

Had Genesis GMD and Hannans HNR go for runs over the past few days. We did get FMG yesterday but paid a bit more than their low.
The market really bounced up today.

Thanks @TomVexille I walked past the bank (ANZ) while food shopping today. Located in a major CBR shopping centre and not much action there. Looked to be only one bored teller and no customers.

Can't remember when I last received a cheque and wasn't aware that some banks do online cheque deposit.

Tks

All the share registries have different systems. Trying to keep on top of log ins has been a big issue for older folks like us.
Losing or forgetting a log in can be a real problem.
Have a day off to catch up on filing and have a Microsoft Teams call with a business that has been struggling for profitability. They are reporting and then doing the group call.
Good luck @rogerkambah getting set with Computershare.

Today was Tesserent which is TNT and yesterday it was Silex.
TNT is a cyber protector and that is a growing space.
Both were placements with bugger all time to analyse the companies fully.
Mrscove is not a fan of placements as she has a life outside of rushed stockbrokers capital raisings.
Vita Group VTG are going to get shareholder approval to sell Telstra shops to Telstra for about $110 million. We will get a franked dividend.

Use a password manager. I use the free version of LastPass so have only one master password to remember.

What no multiple pages of logins? Been having a repeating dream that my travel bag gets swiped along with all the passwords.

Has anyone figured out how NOT to receive all the CHESS holder statements from the ASX? Seriously, how much unneccessary paper must they generate!
You make a very good point. Is there a way because I haven’t found it? Maybe I should actually look at the back of one of them and see if there is fine print somewhere that allows for this. Remember the old days of trades confirmation being sent by snail-express quickly ceased once they charged for this. keep me posted. Also - nice bright sunny lockdown day in Melbourne so I am starting my ‘speculative’ research. Thanks for the ideas. Watch this space…

I am actually appalled by the amount of paperwork sent out by ASX and the share registries. It is such a waste in this day and age. ASX should issue electronic CHESS holder statements electronically via the share registries.
