AFF on Air Discussion thread

I always really enjoy the episodes with interviews with @madrooster, really looking forward to the episode coming out this weekend with part 2 of the interview. I'm looking at booking flights to Canada if the government lets us out!

Ahhh OK.... I just realised that i have not had an AFF OA podcast download since Ep 60 - I'm on Pocketcasts. Will catch up by other means. but would look forward to an eventual PC fix if possible - Cheers :)
 
I have been having trouble with other podcast hosts as well. At one stage I wasn’t getting any AFF down loads on Apple podcasts and went to Overcast as it had a good reputation. Didn’t receive episode 63 on Overcast so back to Apple podcasts and episode 63 was waiting for me! I just know that every second Saturday I have to look for Matt’s dulcet tones!

Thanks for letting me know about the Overcast issue. We will investigate this but I suspect the problem is related to the Pocketcasts issue.

In general, every episode is available on Apple Podcasts immediately after being released. That's been fairly reliable. YMMV with other platforms, I guess.
 
FWIW, I also haven't received episode 63 via Overcast. I also think episode 62 came through late -- I remember thinking it was odd that it arrived in the middle of the week.

Edit: After doing a manual refresh of AFF on Air, it has now appeared. It didn't pop up automatically though.

Google podcasts not having issues.. pocketcasts still same issues
 
Ditto with Pocketcasts. Nothing since mid-May. I guess I'll have to look elsewhere, although all my listening is on one App at the moment - nicely organised so the AFF Podcast downloads immediately and is scheduled next.
 
Just listened to the latest podcast today while cleaning the bathroom - make that chore less of one 😏. Very interesting and enjoyable.

David was so right about reaching status requalifying goals. I was Silver and very close to hitting Gold when Covid started and even though I had my Silver and paid Lounge membership extended - status points continued to drop off anyway. Which left me at a point where I began to think is it even worth trying to crawl my way back to at least Silver.

Silver does have a couple of OK benefits - I can have an extra bag - but I've only had to use that once. And Lounge membership "only" cost me $330 - but it was worth it for me with the number of flights I took and it was nice to guest a travel companion. And there were a couple more lounges back then (not at my home Airport though 😭) But now Lounge Membership (paid) has risen to $400.

I did take advantage of the 20 extra SC per leg that was on offer last month and booked all my flights for the rest of the year - if I've worked it out correctly I "should" hit Gold in a few months. But looking at the benefits - yes I do get complementary Lounge - but nothing really more than what I get with Silver. Oh - apart from being a fancy person allowed to board the plane before the hoi polloi :p So yeah - not really sure if the effort has been worth it - unless Virgin can come up with a few more perks. 😏

Podcast 65 on Loyalty programs was truly amazing and full of insights. Loved it. Still have 2 episodes to catch up. I usually listen to them during my weekly shirt ironing session, but since the lock-down hit Canberra, no reasons to iron shirts anymore. I need to find a replacement activity, maybe I should follow oz_ally example and clean the bathroom :)
 
Long time listener first time caller. Really enjoy the show, thanks for your efforts putting it together Matt. I thought David from 2-3 eps ago was an outstanding guest and would love to hear from him more in future. Madrooster is also very informative.

Lastly thanks for mentioning the Sniip promo - gave me the push I needed to sort out a few Visa/MC only bills and stacked well with the Amex 20% back up to $30.
