AFF on Air Discussion thread

Hi Matt, love the podcast and keep up the good work!

I'm new to collecting Qantas points, but would like to someday redeem them for a RTW or maybe a European holiday. Could you do a segment along the lines of "So l have half a million points Qantas points.. Now what?" I should also say that due to the flight restrictions due to COVID, l have basically NO status credit at all - how does this factor into planning and preparing for a RTW redemption?

Thanks!

Stu

PS. Please give a shout out to 'Scotty' who introduced me to the world of Qantas points and is an avid listener of the podcast!

Glad you like the podcast, and welcome to posting on AFF :)

I have answered your question in today's episode - Podcast Episode #41: Farewell to the Queen of the Skies

Great interview Matt with the CEO of the QFM...I have been to Lre twice, the last time in Oct 2018 on the Qf drought relief charity flight. Learnt a few things from your interview today including the new light show and the new roof for the planes. Will need to revisit when the borders reopen to NSW residents.

It's definitely well worth a visit for the new Luminescent Longreach experience. It was really stunning.

Hi Matt, another great podcast, always hang out each fortnight for a listen.

As someone who’s currently of low/no (bronze) status with QFF, it becomes a long winded process to track down a reasonable reward seat for 2 pax around the intended date of travel. As another option, do you think that buying miles through those programs that are affiliated with Qantas worthwhile as an alternative? Exchange rate aside, the likes of Alaskan and AA have bonus mile promotions from time to time so does the availability through those programs make it easier to get a premium ticket on Qantas? If there is actually availability in the first place.

Glad you're enjoying the podcast!

Happy to talk about this in a future episode.

Thanks, Matt, it was a great episode! Now I can go back to the threads discussing Virgin and try to keep up with the boffins there.

If you ever run out of ideas for episodes in the future, could you consider doing something similar, where you discuss a current-day issue through looking at the relevant history? Virgin Blue etc. was before my time so it's definitely helped me understood the current situation, and I'm sure there are others in a similar boat with this or other topics.

probably more facts to the story.. but it was surprising that Courtney's employer didn't help her seeing it was the reason she went over??

Hi Matt. I feel like the podcasts started yesterday. I can’t believe we‘re up to ep 48!

The “Is VA financially secure?” thread ended in tears. I’ve been hesitant to start a similar thread about Qantas. Perhaps you could interview someone with an appropriate financial qualification on a future podcast.

thanks @cove always helping out with the ATO cards of choice... helped my family, parents & inlaws always fly in J. 👍
(i only started way late in the game in '16)

My brother never moved into SQ Suites as he was perfectly happy with business class for himself and his partner.
We started our sons and their partners in business class and they graduated to first class travel as the points grew. My eldest son can still do coach so he is a favourite.
My SIL and niece loved Suites so that became their travel choice.
We are so pleased js got us all out of the back of the plane.
Our family will miss me when I am gone......
