Once a location and date is decided, and if indeed it is Cairns, hopefully we will be able to grab some cheap QF fares, as I have just flown back from Cairns on Jetstar and believe me never again! Have decided for once and for all unless there is no possible alternative will avoid.

Way off. We are still at the second last final decision stage.
Sort of humorous comment with a twist. I think it is a good time to support the people who organise these things and put in the hard yards. Frankly, your carping comments made in respect of the FT Cairns meeting several years ago turned me right off future involvement. Good luck Sam and thanks for your efforts.

I've flown to CNS at least half a dozen times in the last 12 months with Jetstar, no real problems except very full passenger loadings..... As some people have alluded to they have the better flight times over mainline QF.

Voted for CNS, live in MEL. Happy to go with the majority, though it is so close.

Voicing my support for samh004 here, anyone in that position is inviting criticism. Great job done so far IMHO.

I don't think anyone was criticising samh004?

There are clearly a number of members with strong opinions in both camps. You can never please everyone, so as this is a community the majority decision rules.

I have voiced my support for Melbourne several times and believe my reasoning is logical. However if Cairns is chosen I will evaluate my attendance based on factors at the time (cost, availability of leave days, etc).

Agree, agree, and agree :D

I see an ongoing, persistent criticism of the decision to hold a second poll for location. As such it's a criticism of the person making the decision. If samh004 didn't make that decision then who did? The answer is irrelevant because it is still a criticism of whoever made the decision. Absolutely no need to harp on about it, or even bring it up in the first place.

I quote from #1

It's time to decide where the next gathering is going to be held, and after that when. If we don't, time will pass us by and it'll be too late. I've added what I think were the contenders to a poll, your choice will be visible to others, and please speak up if you can offer a hand (pending dates) in organising activities at a particular location.

At no point does it say 'narrow down the options' or anything of the sort.

My view is that the location was decided the first time, and then another vote decided after the outcome had been decided, for no real reason.

Anyway, MEL is currently a few ahead, just as it was the first time. The majority will speak, and hopefully it'll be resolved.

All of which is interesting but irrelevant to my point*. A decision was made to hold a second poll that decision has been subjected to ongoing persistent attack.

Build a bridge and get over it.

* at no stage did my quoted post mention narrowing down.

Really? I thought this forum was about discussion.

If every time an election was re-done due to a close call or an outcome someone didn't want, we'd always be voting.

Regardless, if that's the general attitude, remove my vote for Melbourne, and i'll just not attend either. I'll now cease from commenting, as that's what you've effectively suggested.

What has happened has happened and looking at the precursor thread, the decision was not taken lightly.

I would suggest that in future up to a dozen options get voted upon and those options that achieve more than 30% of votes cast get taken to a run-off type poll. (If none get 30%, then the top two get run-off).

Note that MEL and CNS attained over 71% of the original 41 votes.

I do note that over 65 votes have been cast in the poll here which is over 50% more than in the initial poll??!??!

Are you serious? Love the quote out of context. Well done. Shame you can't read. I said nothing about discussing the location. My comment is solely about the constant crying about a second poll. To suggest otherwise is a complete joke, as is your reaction now.

The poll will not let me vote. (Maybe as a new member)

If I could vote it would be for Cairns.

I do find it funny that some people on a frequent flyer forum are complaining about the need to travel to a destination.

Is there anything in the "rules" that prohibit two AFF Gatherings to be held in one year? Seems to me that whoever wants to go to one, or the other, will do so, and probably some will go to both.

Wow, just looked at the first poll result. I can only say to all those using the redo the election analogy that elections require the winner to get more than 50% of the vote. I dare say your analogy supports having a second poll.

Some people confuse discussion as criticism.

Some people confuse repeating the same off topic thing over and over and over with discussion.

Wasnt MEL the chosen location? And all that remained was to choose a date?

The OP of the previous poll was very clear. Vote for a location and then vote on a date for the most popular location.

Oh and 1 vote in front is still the most popular location.

The original poll was very clear that the poll was to decide the winner and MEL was the clear winner by 4 votes. Majority rule? You cannot turn around now and have another poll because a few people did not like the decision.

I also don't think the offline talk mentioned is a good idea.

Is the same thing going to happen when the date is decided? Dont like the date then petition for another date?
