Is there anything in the "rules" that prohibit two AFF Gatherings to be held in one year? Seems to me that whoever wants to go to one, or the other, will do so, and probably some will go to both.

But this is the internet so common sense has nothing to do with it :)

The poll will not let me vote. (Maybe as a new member)

If I could vote it would be for Cairns.

I do find it funny that some people on a frequent flyer forum are complaining about the need to travel to a destination.

IMHO it's more about cost / frequency and or availability of flights / the need to take time off work to attend.

For example, I could easily fly to MEL on a Saturday morning and fly back on a Sunday night and not have to take time off work.
In order to go to CNS it would be more difficult and most likely I would not be able to take time off work.
This would stop me from going and I would really like to go.

I've done a weekend JASA from ADL - CNS before, departing Saturday morning, arriving Saturday lunchtime, and returning Sunday afternoon. No time off work required.

There is also the following:

The return option has poor timing.

edit: the formatting didn't come in.... :(
there should be an orange star next to the word Sale.

Finally some positive thinking in this thread.

In fact, no.

The first two AFF Gathers were held in the same year, I believe one was testing the waters and then the second probably had a bit more attendance.

I'm glad to see some calm has prevailed, and I do accept full responsibility for creating a second poll that contradicted the first poll a little. I should have simply declared MEL the winner at that time, but we've had far more "voter" turnout now, and despite being a dead heat, this perhaps suggests the "loser" will be a front runner for AFF #9, whether that be this year or next year.

I have finally got home from a busy week of flying, eating, drinking, socialising and driving, and will be happy to see the poll end tomorrow afternoon ;) and start looking at dates. Hopefully, regardless of the outcome, all those that have voted can help with choosing a suitable date, regardless of if your choice won or not.

I think Singapore is also a good idea... After all it is extremely convenient for me... and there are so many Australians in Singapore who fly frequently, many of whom use Brazilian travel agents - the perfect AFF demographic :p :p

... and probably cheaper to get to/from than CNS ... ;):p

Not everyone has to go to every get together. For many of us Melbourne has little attraction as there are lots of them there. (I have been to two functions in Melbourne this week)

The festivities usually start on the Friday evening.
But like Oz Fest some people go to some of the things and others go to all. Some arrive and stay for days and others only one night.

..... now I have 5 posts I have been allowed to vote.

And you would probably be in Outer Mongolia on a last minute trip you could not possibly change.

Singapore would almost be easier for me than CNS... ;)

I didn't see you in Singapore last weekend.

Looks like AFF8 and AFF9 locations are sorted just depends on which order we want to do them in.

Many people that vote in polls like this will not attend or/and have not attended before. Better if have guidance on who is eligible to vote
Democracy is OK up to a point (for freq flyers). A benevolent dictator is the best form of government.
Making a firm decision is what is important. Adding a new game rule after the bell is never appreciated

I have just voted and probably should not have voted as I am more than likely not able attend.

I have bookings every weekend through to end June and about to book airfares through to end September and October/November are also out.

There is some merit in having a fixed date every year such as Ozfest.
