AFR's Joe Aston goes BAM!

[mod hat]
A reminder to keep to the topic and contents of the book, not partisan politics.
[/mod hat]

I understand your requirements, but surely it is almost impossible NOT to talk about partisan politics, given the author of the book/accuser is ex Liberal staffer, and the accused is the Labor PM.

This thread is already stretching the 'no political posts' on AFF, so it is up to every poster to make sure that line isn't crossed.

Sharri: "And we've even seen this week that publicly, the Prime Minister has already admitted there was a number that he called for upgrades."

Reporter: "Did you call Allan Joyce personally for these upgrades?"
Albanese: "Look the... the idea... Qantas have a... ah... a number in terms of bookings, ah.. that are private bookings."

Sharri: "So Albanese there already admitting requesting upgrades..."
Huh??? So Sharri's 'smoking gun' that proves without a shadow of doubt that the PM requested upgrades - in breach of Ministerial Standards - was that he went on the record in saying that Qantas has "...a number [for] private bookings." Wow. Case closed, lock him in jail and throw away the key. And god help the rest of us who know about 13 13 13.... </sarcasm>

To be clear, I'm not trying to defend the PM or the idea that politicians/officials are breaching standards etc by accepting gifts or using their positions to advantage, but surely we need to demand higher editorial and reporting standards than this?

Towards the end of the article there was a comment on Clive Palmer who this week said that the CL should be abolished. He was rubbished by the ABC as you would expect but there reason for rubbishing him lends wait to his call.
Lol. When was the last time Clive flew commercial rather than on own jet?

Agreed.

What’s the difference between CL hotline and P1 or WP hotline requesting upgrades for private travel or business travel?

I'm not sure but possibly he had the odd sip or 2 in the CL before he was taken to his own plane.
If he didn't then why the heck did they dis invite him.
Still not a good look for QF dis inviting him when he didn't vote the way they wanted.

The best way is to completely ban CL access for all politicians.

I can see a world where this happens, but they're allowed to continue earning SC and accessing whatever published QFF benefits are extended to the frequent flying public. I'm sure most of them would easily earn P1 without their CL status.

The CLs turn into ghost towns without pollies, so QF converts them to P1 (and maybe LTP) lounges as a covert way to get the pollies back in.

I'll come back and find this post in a few years when it comes true 😉

Why does anyone believe Aston‘s unsubstantiated claim in the first place.

I am not sure they do.

For something that could be an innocent mistake, the PM has spent considerable time in denial, including some carefully crafted pressers.

I haven't read the book; however, it's the second one I thought I would buy but have been unable.
