Air Berlin files for bankruptcy

I also saw all the OW carriers have wiped them out from all their PR and literature, such as the inflight mags. The OW flags seem to be getting a bit thin of late.

Do they need another European operator in addition to BA, Iberia and Finnair, and if so who?

Surely Aer Lingus would be a good fit?

I would love to see another Oneworld airline based in central Europe but there aren't really any obvious choices that aren't already part of an alliance. Maybe Air Serbia?

I don't think so, they seem to be balanced but nice to pick up someone in India and maybe China, but CX will fight hard for anyone from there to come onboard

I would expect Aer Lingus to join the fold soon now that they're owned by IAG. Otherwise Lufthansa and Air France/KLM have continental Europe pretty sewn up.

Without looking at the numbers I'd say oneworld has lost more than it's gained in the past five years. No good for what is alread the smallest alliance.

So in the past 7 years they lost Mexicana, Malev and AirBerlin, but gained QR, MH and TAM. I guess the gain or loss in coverage is relative to where in the world one travels most. In Europe I've recently given up on trying to always fly OW, I've booked some flights with KL and SK which are offering fast track and even lounge access on some Y fares...bypassing the need for status.

Well I received an email this morning that Topbonus (former frequent flyer program of Airberlin) has now also gone into insolvency. The email included a lovely message that the miles in my account have now been reduced to zero. Oh well, they've been worthless anyway since AB went under.

I had a few miles with TB ... in the email stated the following ... I will apply to see what happens

the award miles that your topbonus account has as of April 1, 2018, become insolvency claims for insolvency reasons. Your mileage account at topbonus (as of April 1, 2018: xx_XXmiles) therefore had to be set to "0". You can register the equivalent of these miles as of 6 April 2018 as an insolvency claim online at Topbonus Verfahrensinformationsportal. In order to secure the planned payments from the bankruptcy estate, you should do so by April 24, 2018 at the latest.

Is it worth doing this for the sake of the 500 miles in my account?

Probably not as only about EUR1.24 ... Also unsure how you would get paid as only seemed to allow a German bank account to be added for payments

I will be getting around EUR50 back, and I also have a German account for it to be paid into

I go back to the Ansett days and i lost a huge amounts of points, but when it came to the class action in regards to the points; people lost their whole livelihood over the debacle, so i could not subscribe.
