Guess the agent never heard of why fly direct when you can connect.

In a country where the vast majority have never had a passport and in some states education is only for the wealthy, then perhaps the quality of staff and relevant knowledge is lacking, let alone an enhanced sense of power trip emboldened by their leader.

We’re flying to/from the US on CX later in the year (all one ticket). Will report back…although I will have entered the US on the same ESTA before then. Off to HNL mid year on QF.

I think the list of things those agents don't know is far longer than the list of knowns..I still remember distinctly biting my tongue when being asked why a civil engineer would be entering the USA heading to Seattle, because there's a lot of other engineers who go to Seattle looking for work.
