....

People praise JB as being some kind of god but isn't his airline having to turn to it's foreign partners to survive? Much of their money coming from the UAE as well but it seems they are just completely immune to any criticism at all!
I suspect the anti AJ pprune rant linked to had it's origins amongst QF staff, perhaps some made to look silly by the shutdown of QF operations those few years ago.

yes and I can understand the frustration but some of the anti-gay, anti-irish commentary is disgusting.

Managed to get a seat on EK413 instead.... Maybe he thought he deserved to fly with a premium carrier rather than slumming it?

In all seriousness unless AJ or others on the Management team try the EK product (or EY/CX etc) then he will never know where QF have potentially gone wrong.

Sorry...this made me giggle. Maybe it was just bad luck, but my experience on Emirates (QF codeshare) in J (2 times) was thoroughly underwhelming. Besides being attended to by no less than 8 different crew who mostly ask the same questions (bordering on annoying), their organisation on board 'behind the scenes' is nothing compared to QF. On one flight, I watched EK crew literally shove things into galley cupboards as we descended into DXB as though we were coming in for a crash landing; we were not. Then upon landing, water was gushing out of said galley cupboards - presumably because someone had not thought to empty glasses etc before stowing them. All QF staff may not be constantly disengeniously friendly (though I certainly always feel welcome on board), but I have never felt a sense of chaos like I did on EK.

JB, to his credit, has actually laid out a coherent strategy for the business he runs and has followed through on it. Whether it's the right one or not we can debate but he is a credible CEO.

AJ has changed strategy so many times it's just absurd.

Putting aside RedQ, the Malaysia plan, Jetstar HK and a dozen other stated plans that haven't come to pass let me just make this simple observation: Today qantas is in a cash crisis, only months ago they were using their cash to buy back their own shares at prices well above today's closing. You don't need to know anything about airlines to realise something is seriously wrong with management there.

PS I agree the attacks on AJ for his sexuality and his heritage are way out of line. What's more they are completely unnecessary when there is so much material to work with from the job he's done running the airline.

Well at least AJ is not French. :p

I'm flying QF10 tomorrow so I know I won't have any of the QF entourage on my flight. (One positive from living in a remote outpost of the QF empire*)

*Admittedly not as remote as Adelaide and Perth but Melbourne is getting there.

I think some people don't quite get that whatever denigrating or derogatory attacks on AJ are being directed at him is an expression of the disgust at him and his position.

Unacceptable? Maybe, but it does tell you how many people - or rather, how badly some people - want AJ gone, irrespective of the means. The tactics so employed are perhaps a degeneration from the fact that the frequent criticisms of his management technique (the reportedly most diplomatic, proper and genteel way of "dealing with it") have not yielded the desired result. Countless accusative blog posts, news reports, shareholder outbursts, ex-staff revolts (and even a few salvos from JB)...... he's still there...

AJ has had a noted threat on his life before. If that's not a statement of how much some people want him gone - unacceptable or not - I don't know what is.

This was never proven, the police investigation was called off due to lack of evidence so only AJ knows the truth really...

hmm.. i think you need to do a bit of homework... not every country has an Air Force One

I'm well aware of that, as I used to work for a prime minister. We may not have Air Force One, but we do have two Boeing business jets and three Challengers (Royal Australian Air Force VIP aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) and the PM flies almost exclusively on them. If Abbott flew commercial to JNB I'm very surprised, it would be very unusual (as in, almost unheard of).

ETA well, I'm surprised - Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten choose Qantas flight instead of private jet to South Africa | News.com.au - but you will note the article says it's the first time he's flown commercially overseas since becoming PM. It is extremely unusual, and his security detail is no doubt hating it.

Yes I am quite aware of the aircraft and I am also quite aware of their limited range. Pretty sure it doesn't fly the PM long haul - UK/US for example.

Considering he has been in the job a few months i am not surprised it is the first time! I am also certain it won't be the last either.

Previous prime ministers have certainly flown long haul on the BBJ. It's a pain in the neck because of the refuelling stops. As markis10 pointed out, the reason for this trip being commercial was because they didn't have time to go the long way so they could refuel. Prime ministerial visits are usually planned well in advance with plenty of time to work out the stops.

Not so remote any more. We now have colour TV in the ADL QP.
