I was planning on doing a mini report on our journey to NZ, I now realise why I do not do trip reports unless I think about it in advance ;). I intended it to be a little more detailed but it did not happen . So here goes the shortest and worst report ever. :(

ADL lounge arrived around 05:25 with boarding 15 minutes later only had a coffee and forgot to take any pics, no great loss.

J to SYD not to bad.

Then caught up with another Aff’er from NZ, in the SYD F lounge. jswong and I had pre arranged the catch up and by the time we arrived he had secured a table for 3. Again forgot to take photos so you have to take my word that we were there. jswong and I tucked into corn fritters while MrsM had the eggs benedict, all washed down with some F lounge fizz.

Then off to NZ my home for the next 3 hours, again no photo, pre departure fizz check, no photo. Then onto lunch - pumpkin soup followed by the fish and some chardonnay to wash it down. After eating I realised I had not taken photos of anything. So this is the only photo

The end. :eek::oops:

Now settled in to the Hilton and looking forward to dinner tomorrow.

No planking on the FLounge shelf? You were never really there with fellow AFFers!

Great trip report @Matt_01. :D

The price has been fixed at $75 and now includes tea/coffee as well.

Drinks can be paid for separately at the end of the evening - so keep track of all those beers! ;)

See you all tomorrow!

Hope all have fun. Would be great to see plenty of pics!

.....Pity about the rain this morning in Auckland.

We were a bit lucky we walked to the French Market in Parnell this morning and made it just befor the heavy down poor. The pic is not the best however this was one of the best ham and cheese toasties I have eaten, so much for low fat.

After the rain cleared we decided we had to walk the badness off. While walking towards the war memorial we walked past an open grarage door and this is at the point I could not believe what I was looking at. I could not help myself as I have a passion for old cars, have a couple but not in this league so called out the chap to ask about the cars, this is at the point all my christmas’s came at once. He invited me in and was able to get up close and personal with some very special motors. For motoring enthusiasts, in the garage was:
  • x2 Mercedes 300 SL convertibles
  • a Mercedes 540K Special Roadster
  • a Bugatti Type 75 (roadster model)
  • an Alfa Romeo 6C 2300B (the grand tourer drop head).
All cars were in concours condition, however he was doing some work on the Bugatti so being able to get up close and discuss the inner workings of a straight-eight double overhead cam and braking system of a type 57 Bugatti is not something I will forget any time soon.

I have no photos of the cars, I did not ask, this was his personal collection in his own garage and even if I did I would not post them. Photos of these motors can easily be found on the web. The owner was was passionate about his motors, as I would be. So far the highlight of our trip, however dinner is only an hour away. :)

I was chatting to the manager after everyone had gone and he was lamenting that he had to write-off a bottle of wine as it had been partially opened. There was also another bottle he had to open that night. He offered us a taste, and was generous with the pours. Both were amazing, which is not surprising as they were in the order of $300-500 ea.
