Alan Joyce to leave Qantas immediately

You have to wonder about whatever knowledge of the ACCC sniffing around was floating around the halls. It can’t have been a sudden surprise. That surely that must throw up questions regarding dearest leader’s sale of most of his shares. Aren’t there some ‘go to jail’ outcomes associated with this sort of thing.
It’s almost akin to insider trading I would have thought

ACCC have said that they were engaged with Qantas obtaining documentation for some time before the Federal Court action was launched. Its probably the only way they could know when the airline quietly cancelled the flights.

The actions taken aren't 'criminal', so no, no jail in prospect. ACCC could have gone a criminal route, but that would have to go through the Director of Public Prosecution's office but they said going through their own legislation would be quicker, and they want an exemplary fine.

Alan Joyce's selling of a big chunk of his shareholding, which had to be approved by the Chairman, and which was likely during the time of ACCC enquiry of the airline, will no doubt get some attention in the Senate enquiry.

But isn’t that just about textbook insider trading?

In years to come in journalism/marketing/political degrees across the country this will be a fascinating case study of how quickly things change when the tide goes out and everyone is left exposed (warren buffett) and so-called allies retreat
The course is still being written….
I attended Sydney Uni Business School back when the State Bank of Victoria was used as the case study for assignments around how it might have been saved. I hope QF doesn't allow itself to descend to a similar low ebb post-Joyce.

Let's play devil's advocate. (Taking some inspiration from the movie Apollo 13 just after the explosion and everyone is taking stock)

What about the company under his leadership, or himself, has been or was good?

Don't say profits... too easy...

They say that when employers are requested to provide a letter of reference, the standard is that you only provide complimentary remarks about a former employee, or just refuse to provide a letter at all.

As much as I dislike him, and he has justifiably caused most working for the company (or now contracting...) to despise him, isn't really the reality to say that he has destroyed the airline, just IMHO.
Maybe not the airline, but has certainly destroyed the airline's reputation, along with the morale of the staff from top to bottom...

Give him what every other employee gets - after 30 years service all you get is a letter confirming 30- years service and that you left voluntarily. In my case they couldn't even type my name straight it's at quite a nice angle across the line it's supposed to be on!
