All International Arrivals into Australia to self isolate for 14 days

I wonder what the visitors that arrived this morning are going to do, or where are they going to stay as from my experience some places are loathe to do the 14 day self confinement thing.

I reckon there's a business opportunity there for some astute accommodation operators. Reduce cleaning, but offer value add services such as grocery collection etc ....

Would you prefer to leave again rather than stay somewhere for 14 days? There are probably places you could find but they may not be the most comfortable for a 14 day imposed isolation.

I haven’t got anywhere to stay for the 14 days.

For entering the country, the theory is that if you do not have symptoms of a virus ( cough, fever, sore throat, lethargy) you will not be contagious. A person could catch COVID in LAX yesterday and it could take 7-30 days to become "active" with that person then spreading the virus. So they could fly LAX-SYD-MEL while having the Covid, but be unable or unlikely to spread the disease. And health department can track the passengers movement s back. Also self isolation can be in the family home and family members are not isolated unless original person shows symptoms. Everyone is out of luck if you have the flu/hayfever and jetlag instead of or as well as covid 19
In NZ it appears many ticketed events can proceed ( polo in the park, outdoor concerts ) as there is a way to identify who attended. But we have seen a number of open entry events cancelled like Paifica festival. I dont like the chances of the Easter Shows this year.

Sydney Easter Show was cancelled a couple of days ago. Along with Vivid

Yes the Easter show for the first time since 1919 cancelled in peace time. And that was for the Spanish flu.
A call out to the Novotel Olympic Park who are refunding a pre paid booking in full.

People getting off their flights from DFW flight tomorrow morning are going to be in for a bit of a surprise. Those in LAX/SFO/YVR originating flights (and EK 404 SIN-MEL arriving at 00:20), checked in, ready to go, may face some hard decisions about whether to FTB or not.

Pardon my ignorance (even though it's never...) but what's 'FTB' mean?

Arriving from Doha, were met at the door by a guy and were told to take a flyer re self isolation. Same as posted on line.

All manual Immigration at ADL - Smart Gates roped off.

Was asked if I had been to mainland China, Iran, Korea Italy ( may have been another one) in past 2 weeks. "No". Pass, after regular passport check.

Checking into the Hilton there was a form asking me where I had arrived from - "Government requirement".

I filled out London and am looking forward to room service tonight.

Edit: Its funny ... the hotels I've been the past 3 weeks, I've wiped down the surfaces, sometimes twice . Just now, without thinking, I wiped down all my stuff ... (hoping, I guess, I am in a clean environment now).

of course you are - you're in Adelaide - please don't contaminate it though :p

So new requirements came into effect since midnight. Was almost going to risk coming down to MEL on EK 404 from SIN. Seems they pulled into the gate at 23:59 (scheduled 00:20). Wonder if they were subject to new controls (based on immigration time of pax) or not (based on flight arrival time).

I read somewhere that they actually extended it to 1am so that those flights that were landing about midnight were not affected.

I think generally there are services that land about midnight or just after then there aren’t any more to about 6am.

So for all of the inbound passengers going straight to self isolation how are they supposed to get groceries? Coles Online is offline and the earliest delivery window for Woolworths was Saturday if you are lucky enough to fluke a spot and complete check-out before it disappears.

Phone a friend?

Get inventive.

If you leave town with a bare cupboard and nothing in your freezer then it'll be a learning curve. I'd expect that most folk returning home would have enough adulting under their belt to make do until friends or family could muster an aid drop.

Self isolation does not mean quarantine. But as it happened, even before it was announced by the govt I decided to self isolate and have arranged for friends to stock my car with groceries on arrival.

But absent that, I would go for a discrete shop using a p95 mask.

It's 'self isolation' under published guidelines. It's not sitting on a rock out to sea.
