All international travelers will be quarantined in hotels or designated facilities

I dont understand why theyre not using airport hotels like the Rydges and Stamford in Sydney. Why bus them closer into the City?
I like the idea of attempting to keep beds available, that are near the airport, for contingency reasons.

And now there are reported complaints that some hotel accommodation, provided, is not 5-star. 🤔

I think the only valid complaint is the lack of fresh air (opening windows) in some of the hotels. 5-star or otherwise.

TBH, I think any of us who travel frequently know full well that once confined to the room there is b#gg@#r all difference between a 5 star and 4 star, and even 3 star hotel. Most of the time its the services, amenities and facilities in 5 star hotels, and perhaps the quality (but not necessarily the comfort) of the furnishings that give it the 5 stars. But if you are confined to a hotel room, doesn't really matter how good the spa is, the atmosphere of the restaurants, how well equipped the gym is, the skills of the mixologist, the helpfulness of the concierge, the ambience of the lobby, etc .... it's just a room.

Christmas Island comes to mind. Surely even just a leaked threat might silence them.

The cruise ship Vasco off Perth with 800 Aussie passengers onboard. They just interviewed a passenger. She said they knew when they boarded that there would be a good risk of Covid and interruptions but they didn't want to lose their money so they had no choice as the cruise wasn't cancelled. 😡Then she said as they were Covid free there were more at risk now than everyone else. 😡😡😡

I wonder unless she's a perthite that she knows she has 28 days in isolation ahead of her if coming back to SA.

This is one of the biggest issues with this virus.

Cruise companies and agents should have offered full money back as soon as it was known there was a big risk. In fact they should have proactively cancelled cruises and wait until the whole thing blows over.

As I mentioned in another thread I took a bigger risk than was necessary going to Thailand mid February. Cruises should have beena big no-no.

Hey. Guess what! We 👍👍👍👍

I have been keeping a 'mental' list of the hotels that are being used (I see police in front of them on way to work or on news etc.) ...is there a list somewhere that is being maintained for 'posterity'?

The hotels around Australia were mostly empty so I am hoping the Federal Government is getting a good deal. Christmas Island would be expensive per person compared with 5 star, 4 star , 3 star, 2 star hotels.
Latecomers from Bali who went there after the Government said don’t go there could get tentland.

I saw the furore of Lara Dingle Bingles mother and her disgusting four star accommodation in other media. Apparently in order to create as "nasty as possible" they took all the cushions off the seat and made other photographic - amendments - to get the worst effect.

@Pushka just don’t worry about that one as the pub test measure went “cough”. The Australian public is up to figuring dumb cough comments....

I’m overseas at the moment, living in my own house, with family so I’m comfortable. I live and work in Aus as well, was considering coming back end of May for work, but will probably stay here for the duration, not really prepared for the hotel lotto, even though i agree that the government had no choice but to handle it this way,

Before the forced quarantine I was already making inquiries with 5 star hotels in Sydney that were offering self isolation packages, very willing to pay for it myself, yes it’s only a room but some rooms are better than others.

The ones I’m angry with are the ones that didn’t isolate in accordance with government regulation in the first place ruining it for those of us who do have the self discipline to isolate fo 14 days.

Having said all that if I was stranded overseas and desperate and was fortunate to make it back to Australia I couldn’t care less where they placed me for 14 days. I have plenty of things to do to keep me occupied for those days in isolation.

Just a note about Lara Bingle's (or whoever she was) mum and their hotel. I've stayed in that hotel and it is lovely. Mind you, some of the rooms are a bit pokey - I probably wouldn't wouldn't want to be confined to one of the smaller ones for two weeks. But the a/c works and the showers, beds and towels are nice, so it could be a whole lot worse.

ETA: MrSuze and I stuck rigorously to our quarantine period when we got home and feel good about doing so. Mind you we have a three bed house with a deck so we have been able to get away from one another, have an exercise bike on the back deck, a view and our cat. We only wished we'd had our car at the airport because we had to take a cab home and felt bad about the potential risk to the cabbie.
