All international travelers will be quarantined in hotels or designated facilities

Just a note about Lara Bingle's (or whoever she was) mum and their hotel. I've stayed in that hotel and it is lovely. Mind you, some of the rooms are a bit pokey - I probably wouldn't wouldn't want to be confined to one of the smaller ones for two weeks. But the a/c works and the showers, beds and towels are nice, so it could be a whole lot worse.
Hopefully once this is over the Hotel can sue for defamation. Or whatever it is that a business can do.

I’m into day 3 at Crown Promenade, a comfortable bed and 3 meals a day. I ring guest services each day and tell them what a great job they are doing and how much I appreciate their efforts.
I get so p***ed off when they tell me thank you, because virtually every second call they are getting is a complaint about some minor irrelevant issue, from some self centred waste of space. OMG this is a global crisis !!

With the Hilton and Swissotel being used in Sydney and the Duxton utilised in Perth, at this point I want to go overseas just so I can come back to be quarantined.
I arrived on 17 March and the paper given to me said, "Date when your self-quarantine finishes: 1/4/20". Whether that means I'm free at 12am 1 April or 12am on 2 April, I really don't know. I feel as though "Your last date of self-quarantine" would have been clearer.
Well, you arrived on St Patrick's Day, and all bets were off on April Fool''s Day.

Mind you if NSW was involved, you'd be best to wait a week while Gladioli catches up.

This is one of the biggest issues with this virus.

Cruise companies and agents should have offered full money back as soon as it was known there was a big risk. In fact they should have proactively cancelled cruises and wait until the whole thing blows over.

As I mentioned in another thread I took a bigger risk than was necessary going to Thailand mid February. Cruises should have beena big no-no.
They were, John; that's when I cancelled ours, several weeks ago. Not that I was going to Thailand, or Siam as it was once far more melodiously termed.

Cruiselines in the main are not cancelling in advance. Usually just about four weeks out even when blind Freddy knows they can't possibly proceed. Viking Cruises has been an exception, there may be others.

I think the good hotels are doing well. Those at the IBIS, not so well with the food.

We did cancel a cruise ending in Italy early October.refund back on my Amex next day from Silversea.

@Pushka I think will 'like' this (re Bali): The headline:

A pregnant Tasmanian woman has been refused basic human rights at a military-patrolled quarantine site.

Excerpts:

Sophie Ciszek and her partner Carlo Cassan returned from a surfing holiday in Indonesia [earlier version said Bali], arriving in Sydney on Sunday, just hours after the mandatory quarantine restrictions came into place.

“From the second we landed we were in Federal Police and military custody,” Ms Ciszek said.

“We were screened by a doctor and had our temperatures checked before being put on a bus, where we were stuck for hours before being taken to the Novotel.”

They were given a letter from the NSW Health Department on arrival.

“It explained everything but it said we would get time each day to exercise. We haven’t been allowed to leave our room once. There’s no fresh air, the windows don’t open.”

Ms Ciszek works for the Tasmania Fire Service and is a professional sailor who has competed in nine Sydney to Hobart yacht races.

Needless to say, they aren't getting a lot of sympathy from the story's reader comments.

Simple response.
I'm sorry sir/madam that we aren't living up to your expectations. I understand there is now space at Christmas Island and can make inquires with the government if they are able to move you immediately.

Just a thought on the 14 days hotel isolation - perhaps people could be tested after 7 days and if clear allowed home for a further 7 days of isolation - it seems for most symptoms show up in the first 7 days.

That's a lot of tests but it is a good idea.

😂😂

I owe Lara an apology. Cushions were removed from chairs for health reasons. Not photography purposes. Although I wonder why its ok to leave pillows and bedding if cushions pose such a risk. Is this NSW Health in action again?

The pictures i saw of the food was pretty bad though, not sure which hotel it was, might have been intercontinental. But its not the standard food from their restaurants but rather some mush that has been approved by the government and put into plastic containers, also seems like a very small service. If the article and people interviewed were right. For breakfast it was like one medium sized roll and one plastic container of some stuff to share between 3 people. If its accurate, i would eat more than that by myself.

But really if we are talking about stopping all this before it got to this stage, then the chinese government needs to be held accountable once all this has passed and the death toll is figured out as They knowingly withheld information as well as denied any of it for at least 6 weeks after being told by medical staff in Wuhan. The treatment of their people in Wuhan is tragic, how many lives could they have saved if they had acted quicker rather than wanting to silence everyone and on a global scale they could have caught it before it spread. Or at least a much better chance of having caught it.

Part of the issue is also the sheer amount of travellers that can afford to fly these days compared to a decade or 2 ago.

I agree, the food looks pretty bad and no wonder when someone you know is in hospital, most people offer/take food in for the person. I say this because Im told the food is being provided by Hospital providers.

Yes and SARS,swine flu and now Covid have all come from the Chinese wet markets. They must be closed.no ifs or buts.
And as well it would be a lot kinder on the animals.

On cruise critic someone in isolation in Sydney has tested positive today having just flown home from a Celebrity US cruise. There’s a real sh#t storm about to happen because despite having passengers showing symptoms onboard they made a statement to local authorities that no suspicious symptoms were onboard and so they were allowed to disembark.

Spanish Flu as well originated from China, but since it was a long time ago, no way of knowing if that was from "wet markets" as well.
