No I was referring to the seat maps for the aircraft type which you see pre-booking confirmation.
Sadly Qantas only let you see the actual aircraft layout after you book.
Not a problem for those of us with an Expert Flyer subscription but it is for the rest.

True. But not too sure what that has to do with the OP's predictament

Domestically, you will need to be unlucky to catch VH-EBP (about 1 in 12)
Indeed the last three days it has only been operating SYD-MEL-SYD-MEL etc, so maybe QF are trying to keep it off the PER routes

Internationally, EBG/EBL appear to operate (along with an occasional east coast triangle route)
SYD-HNL (QF3/4) - seemingly all of the 5/wk flights
SYD-BKK (QF23/24)- 3 of 7/wk flights
SYD-HKG (QF83/180) - 1 of 2/wk flights
SYD-PVG (QF129/130)- 3 of 7/wk flights

So unless you are flying from SYD good chance you will be on a refurb

My 'guess' would be that mid-August EBP and one of EBG/EBL go in for refurb, leaving the SYD-HNL routes as the only one with a non-refurb until mid-September

Although inconvenienced by the aircraft change, I can now say I was the last person ever to sit in my seat on EBO then....

Just need to avoid EBP. I have been scheduled either EBG or EBJ in October.

Still got my fingers and other body parts crossed for my QF3/4 trips on 21/28 Sept. May get lucky

My Per -> Syd trip this week has had an equipment change to the sole remaining workbench config. :(

I don;t mind the old skybeds as a domestic product - so wouldn't be unhappy with one of those - but alas a quick view of the economy section reveals that I must be on EBP

Will be the last 2 to get reconfigured... probably will be around until 2018 to operate HNL and other Asian routes.

Which probably supports why they have been done last... that and poor competition to HNL. But considering all the other A330s will be refurbished within the next 2 months, it'd be pretty odd for QF not to finish off the job and just wait another couple of years before then doing it? Plus they've said it'll be done this year.

What's the difference in time between BNE-NRT and SYD-HNL?

Pretty sure they will be done despite the loss of J capacity.. if only to get rid of the Rockwell Collins IFE.

But of course they still need to support it in the two older 747s they kept flying OEB and OJM, which also haven't received their promised mini-refurb (my assumption is this will occur in Sept/Oct once the 332s are complete)

Guess I've just been unlucky then as my last 4 flights from PER to MEL/SYD have had the aircraft changed in the last couple of days from a refurb to the old 2-3-2. The return flights have all been refurbs though.

I specifically checked expert flyer to get the refurbed bird but missed out each time.

My prior suggestions that QF were keeping VH-EBM off the PER routes have proven to be incorrect - so my 1/12 chance remains (up until a week ago it was more like 3/12 swilk)

That is actually quite funny, I've had the old bird allocates to me a few times PER to MEL but when I've walked on board - Marc Newson Suites have greeted me! Perhaps you are the poor person who EBM is knocked onto! (Sorry!)

One of them has already had a mini refurb (forget which aircraft)

It looks like every 10 days it does QF 566.

Might have one more perth flight before going in for refurb

First time in one of these refurbished A330s in business today BNE-HKG. I don't understand the hype. Seat narrow and uncomfortable to sit upright and when flat no room for legs/feet to move and panicked a couple of times thinking I'd get stuck.

Give me Skybed anytime.
