So glad I checked this site this morning. I was about to book Honolulu for next June today but now I will adjust the date and fly Air NZ instead. Yes it means going via AKL and an overnight stay on the way back if I want business all the way, but I'm ok with that.

Or fly hawaiian - you'll need to check the schedule but full flat beds are being rolled out on all their A330s.

They are. But then so is the J cabin on the 737 and that isn't going to change.
Yet you can pay the same fare and end up on one of them.
For that matter the skybeds on the A380s aren't going to be replaced soon either!
Whereas I suspect the B787s will replace the A332s on the HNL route next year.

They don't run the 737 on long haul such as SYD-SFO or SYD-HKG/SIN/PVG, these are 8-14 hour routes. The furthest they fly a 737 is PER-SIN at 5h20m.

At least the Skybed II on the A380 is flat.

PER-SIN is longer the other way. And PER-SYD, PER-BNE and PER-MEL are all routes on which you can pay basically the same business fare and receive a completely different product. It's not just the hard product either. The soft product is also affected by the lack of space on the 737. My point is that the 2 unrefurbished A332s, disappointing though they are, will not be the only significant inconsistency in the J product across the fleet.

I read some time ago that the HA upgrades would be done out of brisbane by the same people doing the Qantas upgrades although not designed like the qantas business suites. This was not due to start till they finished working on the qantas planes

QF BNE has got some C-Check maintenance contracts for HA (and has already had two aircraft through BNE this year). I believe the HA refurbs are being done elsewhere.

VH-EBL has been doing domestic only routes since 25/8 with VH-EBG currently on the SYD-HNL routes, so I remain of the opinion that at least one of these aircraft will go into refurb in the next week.

QF flies a 73H on MEL and SYD-DPS r/t which are 6h flights. ouch
To be fair though with the exception of GA everyone else flying AU-DPS are using narrowbody aircraft.

Edit: Forgot that JQ operates the B788 on some routes. Personally I'd take a QF B738 over a JQ B788 any day.

Given they could do QF3/4 with a single aircraft (and utilise it domestically on the days it doesn't operate) it would be very disappointing if they didn't do at least one of the last two. Could QF be trying to push back refurbishment until the next major check or until the 787s arrive?

If they're having issues with the internal configuration I wonder if they are waiting to free up a 333 from the arrivals of the 787s - e.g. SYD-SFO becomes 787, then redeploying the 747 to HKG and in turn the 333 to HNL...

No. Second meal just becomes a cardboard box or a muffin and then the storage issue is resolved.....of course QF would never downgrade Business Class catering this way would they?:p

Another rumour on YSSY that EBG/EBL might be going back to lessors and thence RAAF which would mean no refurb.

Guess we will find out in coming days as EBP/EBD return from maint

EBP back in service this morning making #16 and just leaving EBG/EBL, subject to the above

My CGK-SYD Flight (QF42) in mid November is still showing the old layout. Fingers crossed for an updated seat map closer to the flight.

EBL is now in BNE.
Will it stay there?

EBG on its way back from HNL and scheduled back out again on Sat night to HNL

...

EBL now 24hrs sitting in BNE. If it's still there Mon night I think we can say in for refurb
