I just managed to log into qantas and noticed some blocked seats now open for my HNL flight on sunday. A little bit earlier than T80.
moved from row 5 to row 2. sitting in 2K, 2A still not available.

Just returned from my Hawaii trip on EBG on QF4 and EBL on QF4.....
was talking to one the staff on board about the above two planes while I was waiting to use the toilet and she stated they don't tell them anything and her manager joined the conversation and stated the above two jets would be returning to the domestic routes flights once the Beijing routes start.

Wish Qantas will have a change of heart and use EBG & EBL for Domestic routes instead of Singapore or Beijing route early next year.

I thought it had been confirmed that the two unrefurbished A332s were going to be pressed onto the SYD-PEK route? I read it either on these forums or on AusBT.

yeah, previous post did mention EBG & EBL will be use for Beijing and some Singapore Route. so far, my booking on QF6 in Feb 2017, seats selection still base on EBG/EBL configuration.

Yes, QF announced that. But QF staff don't necessarily read QF's media releases!

PEK has to be served by an A330-200 - they need the -200 to get the range. And the only -200s with 2 J toilets and the extra galley space required are EBG and EBL. All the other -200s have been converted to 1 J toilet and the smaller galley.

It's not the lavatory/galley space that is the main issue... None of the other -200s have a flight crew rest facility (whoever made that idiotic decision!?)... EBG/EBL are the only 2 that still have a Class 1 flight crew rest facility that is necessary for the sector length of SYD-PEK and PEK-SYD.

Looking at the seatmap on the QF website for the newer A332, it appears that one J seat (7A) can be blocked off as flight crew rest if necessary.

That's only a Class 2 rest seat... longer sectors require a fully separated, dedicated Class 1 facility.

So is that a CASA requirement? (genuine question)

I can't exactly remember the CASA stipulations, and they may have changed slightly over the years, but the Agreement is either as restrictive, or more restrictive, and so is my main reference: 12hr duty/8.5hr flight time limit for 3pilots & Class 2 facility; 14hr duty/12.5hr flight time limit for 3 pilots & Class 1 facility

VH-QPI departed SIN in the early hours in the new 2016 livery (making the 3rd in that livery, and the first painted at QPG/SIN) as QF6012.
Means all 330s are now in the 2007 or 2016 schemes.

Given it wasn't swapped seems unlikely that 333s QPA-QPF (which were all painted in the last 18months) will go in for a mini-paint.
Would expect the 332s that didn't go to JQ (and thus have a much older paintjob) to be next in line.

I'm on QF24 BKK-SYD on 4th January in J. Is this plane a non refurbished A330?

I will be pretty disappointed to have basic seats on an overnight flight, especially as I only have 2 days in Sydney before returning to London.
