Question re: bassinet
Does the new A330-300 business suite (row 1) have bassinet that anyone has seen?
Thinking of taking the little one and hoping there is a bassinet.

And similarly, do the -200s have bassinets at row 1?

I am currently booked on QF23/QF24 SYD-BKK-SYD, leaving 23/12, returning 30/12. Both ways have new config A330's scheduled. Having a look at the rest of the week, most flights to BKK are new config. That is not surprising, as by my calculation, there will be 7/10 A330-300s refurbished, and likely 1 in process. This would leave 2 unrefurbished birds flying. I also noticed that there are more A330-200's flying internationally at that time, on flights which are usually A330-300.
Hoping my flights will keep this config, I am looking forward to trying the new business suites.

The -300s do appear to have a Bassinet available for 1A and 1K, if you must!

Thanks, I have since made a booking over the phone with QF and they have allocated 1F and 1K for us.

I'm sure I read recently that Alan Joyce was quoted as saying there are currently 10 refurbs completed and 6 more due by end of year (likely to be 7 333 and 9 332) including all JQ returns.

I'd then expect that there would be 18 by end of Jan (8 and 10), 21 by end of March (9 and 12), 24 by end of May (10 and 14) and the remaining 4 332s by end of October.

Keeping in mind that I believe they can only have 2 A330s in the hangar at one time, therefore all other maintenance has to be squeezed in between refurbs, which slows down the project a bit.

It's possible to fit 3 in the hangar at one time, with only 2 for heavy maintenance. The 3rd bay can be used for light maintenance but they are able to do refurbs in the middle bay. I believe they want that middle bay empty in case they have an unscheduled issue that requires hangar space to look at.

VH-EBF in the air from QPG heading back to BNE as QF6010.
VH-EBK last shown at SIN but has presumably positioned to QPG by now.

Given we are also now 25 days into August (and have had 5 -200s and -300s operating for most of this period) I thought I would update the best flights for the new product.
Notably EBS/EBV have both operated internationally (on 9 return pairs over this period including QF81/82 SYD-SIN and QF41/42 SYD-CGK)

BY looking at the seatmap.
But always subject to last minute change

Hi moa,

I looked at the seat map and it looks like it's the old recliner style seating. I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it and hope things change. Thanks.

Even if it does change - don't get too excited! Friend of mine made that mistake last week... was showing old seats at time of booking. A week out went to the new suites (mcu anticipation and excitement), then two days before departure it went back to the old seats.

Which would explain why a lot of BNE/PER/BNE flights in the last week or so have reverted to non-refurbed birds. :(

For a while it was rare not see a refurbed bird operate QF589, QF597 & QF767 westbound or QF650, QF598 or QF652 (red eye) so EBA, EBB, EBJ, EBS & EBV being regular a/c operating those flights but alas the honeymoon is over.....for now. :(

Thanks for putting that together.
If you take out weekends, do the red eyes from PER to MEL/SYD have 100% hit rate for a refurbed aircraft ?
I recall seeing somewhere recently (QF website maybe ?) that red eye services from PER to SYD/MEL were all scheduled to run the refurbed J on all weeknights.

Aug1 was a Sat so 17 weekdays Aug1-25. Would need to go through the data to check but suspect not the case.

On a quick check of QF568, not the case with a number of weekday flights being non-refurb.
I also note that a 737 does operate this route on some weekends - so the raw percentage is higher than /25
-- will use route tracker rather than jet tracker next time

I prefer not to throw darts but rather bet on sure things.
Do you suspect flying on a weeknight out of PER on the redeye would at least increase the percentages ? Or hard to say ?
What is the usual plan B if you don't get a refurb or suffer a last minute equipment sub ? Skybeds mk.1 is far from a disaster but if you got recliners that would be quite poor for the redeye IMO.

From the data - they are generally the best chance, but not a sure thing.

You won't absolutely confirm the aircraft until your at the airport, and I suspect most will still take the recliner versus taxi back to a last minute hotel and another coughshoot in the morning
