Interesting. Maybe they did a partial refurb when it came back from JQ in late 2014
 
I just had my first trip with the new config on last night's QF571.

I actually found the current VA seat to be more comfortable even though it is not fully flat. The QF seat felt a bit hard in comparison.

Otherwise it is significantly more private.

I am fairly sure that these birds have the Q-streaming put in on transfer from JQ, but only the J seats have it activated.

I was on EBC last week between SYD and MEL and can confirm that it does indeed have iPad minis in Y as well.

This must be a recent development as I seem to recall that previously, passengers were getting compensated when they had to operate the east-west sectors with EBC and EBD. Looks like they've fixed it with iPads in Y as well.

That is indeed recent, as that wasn't the case earlier this year.
 
Isn't one oddity that with its new BNE - NRT flights, BNE now has more QFi A330 departures each week than MEL to Asian destinations?

I'm not criticising QF - it has to allocate its aircraft where it believes it can sustainably (i.e. at acceptable yield) fill them to 80 per cent or whatever, and it only has 10 A330s, which are now fully occupied - and MEL has more flights to LAX than BNE with QF, and the MEL to DXB/LHR daillies that are all either A388s or B744s - but on the face of it one might expect that Melbourne's much larger population might mean more nonstops with A330s to southeast and north Asia than BNE. I'm omitting any JQ flights as these are obviously not QF metal.

MEL continues to lack QF nonstop flights to CGK, MNL, PVG and Japanese destinations among others (although JQ flies to Japan ex MEL, and QF codeshares with MU.)

Unfortunately I think geography may be the answer here. It's likely easier to sell connections through BNE than for people anywhere other than VIC/TAS to backtrack to MEL.

I travelled on EBC earlier this year and was (slightly) disappointed that no IFE was offered in Y even though the aircraft had the Q Streaming logo. So I guess the iPad minis must have been a recent addition.

Qantas can only justify 4 flights SYD-CGK each week, so doubt MEL would be any more useful.

As for the rest of Asia, ever thought the reason BNE has the flights is because it is closer to those destinations you mentioned and QLD is still a major inbound tourist destination for Asians.

Maybe they just want to reduce the numbers enjoying "tier 1" F lounges :rolleyes:
 
Airline schedules are 'dynamic' and in QFd and QFi's case not identical for each day of the week.

QF has 10 A333s, four internationally configured A332s and 12 domestically configured A332s if I'm not mistaken.

For a typical busier day such as a Friday, at present how many of each (although for simplicity it's really just an A333/A332 split) does the QF timetable require to be available for traffic?

In this thread below, RickyT84 has referred to travails on the Australian transcontinental routes and this morning (Friday 14 August) one QF eastbound PER - MEL flight was delayed overnight:

I am fairly sure one of the International 332's has left the fleet.

However with the domestic 332's being reconfigured, I believe QF are looking to use a number of them on the international runs anyway. QF41/42 had EBV operate it the other day as an example.
 
You are correct in it being dynamic.

As we are now partially through the reconfig, the domestic/international split sorry of disappears. There are only 3 of the old SkyBed I planes left (EBI gone and EBH to go) but 2 of what will become an 8 strong Dom/Int fleet (EBS/EBV - those with fixed seatback IFE in Y). Correct that the current QF 332 fleet of 16, although this will increase in September to 17/18
