Oops I think that might have been me - apologies.

Just to re-cap my earlier post and experience with the referral bonus:
 • Following on from an earlier post in this thread, I signed up to the card while already having two existing Amex cards (one of them associated with the gateway program, but had always been directly linked to QF);
 • When my card arrived it was pre-linked to the Ascent program that my platinum charge was on, so I called up to un-link the reward programs as mentioned on here;
 • Unfortunately, the customer rep I spoke to told me that I would not be entitled to any sign-up points as I have a CA Gold card.
 • I decided to take a punt and go ahead with it anyway, as the rep also said if I cancelled the card the fee would be refunded.
 • Lo and behold after the $1,500 spend the bonus points arrived.

Plugging my referral link: http://amex.com.au/refer/williwdqsF
Disclosure: Sign up using a referral link, and you'll earn 110,000 points (as a referrer, I'll earn 20,000 points for each referral made). The card has a fee of $395, but you are also entitled to $400 travel credit. Current expiration of the referral promotion is 31 January 2017.

 • I would be very grateful if anyone uses my referral link, I've just made my first redemption getting my girlfriend and I to Europe - where I will be proposing (luckily she doesn't read these forums);
 • If anyone would like to help fund our honey moon in the near future it would be very much appreciated!

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

Thankyou to the person who used my link (very much appreciated - this is the first time I have ever received a bonus like this)! Thankyou so much!

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

If anyone has found any of my posts useful please consider using my Referral LINK.

I have never had any AFF referrees.....so there is ample allocation available on my card and so your 110K will post, and yes I would gain the same 20K referral bonus as per any referrer.

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

I currently have the AMEX Velocity Platinum card. (Since mid August 2015) If i apply and get approved for the Explorer card, am i entitled to the bonus 100k points ? (or 110k points if i use a referral ?)

High degree of certainty you will. As long as you haven't held a card enrolled in same rewards program, in this case 'Gateway'

Although Amex says you won't. All the recent posts here and elsewhere say you will as long as you haven't recently held an Amex under the Gateway MR program.

Great card enjoy it!

Hey lovely people, if you haven't got an Explorer card, consider getting one with $400 travel credit every year to spend on travel, plus a great points earn for Starwood Preferred Guest at $1 to 1 SPG point via Membership Rewards Gateway (MRG) program. I'm housing SPG points to convert to AAdvantage to fund round the world travel.

Current bonus of 110 000 MRG points for each applicant, which is extra 10k bonus from the current sign up of 100k points.

Here is my link: http://amex.com.au/refer/cheeylUKXq

Wish you all a terrific day!

This is a wonderful Community. Woke this morning to check my Amex Explorer Gateway account and pop #110,000 bonus points received. I am so grateful for the experiences shared in these pages and the benefit I have now experienced myself. I have been an Amex Plat Edge (MR Rewards) continuous card holder since 2005. Applied for Explorer (Gateway Rewards) last week using a referral from this forum, received card, activated card and linked it to my existing online Amex registration, didn't need to de- link from my existing MR Rewards as showed up as Gateway Rewards, made min spend $1,500 and pop bonus received overnight. Once again thankyou, and now to phone to have Gateway Rewards to be linked to my existing MR Rewards.

SPG transfer is 1000 AMEX = 500 SPG isn't it?

Yes, but you earn 2 MR ppd so therefore 1 SPG ppd.

Not quite. Not all earn is at the 2 MR ppd. I do think Betty B makes a point in that it's not actually '$1 to 1 SPG ' as aerotravel has indicated as the AMEX website indicates:

'Earn up to 2 Membership Rewards points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases'

Ok sure, $1 to 1 SPG*

* 'government' spend only earns $1 to 0.25 SPG

That's very different to the 1:1 claimed above.

Many, including myself, have significant spends on government things like council rates.

For a personal credit card product, I disagree that government spend is a significant exclusion for most. As with any financial product, individual circumstances vary.

As a side note, have you tried paying council rates through AusPost Billpay and Paypal? Some councils accept this for full points earn.

luck of the draw - I've used your link and been approved. Now just to meet the minimum spend...

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

thanks for an anonymous 'donor' who clicked my link, the promotion ends 30th Jan, be quick if you want extra 10k points (and 20k points for me) one note to remember for this card is that you can't transfer to QFF, but to other airlines: Velocity, Krisflyer, MAS, Airmiles, Air NZ, Etihad, Emirates, ThaiAirways and hotel partners : Hilton, SPG.

** still new in this 'referral program', but it will be good for us who dont have much friends or family here :-)

Thanks in advance again... http://amex.com.au/refer/peikhlLiNH

Re: AMEX Explorer referral

Around 2 weeks to go to take advantage of this incredible offer!

Planning a big trip and so have signed up 2 other family members for a total of 3x cards.

To give an example of how useful these 3x Explorer cards sign-on points are, here's what we booked below. We transferred from Amex MR points->SPG->Marriott and booked 5 nights or more to maximise value with the 5th Night Free credit.

LocationHotelNightsPoints Used
AMEX MR/SPG/MarriottCost if Paid With Cash

Total16346.6k/173.3k/520k$9,319.272.69c/pt

With 3x Explorers, we got 3x sign-on bonus of 110k + 2x referral bonus of 20k = 370k total MR points. With these redemptions, I value each card's 110k sign-on bonus at $2,959 of value! With 2MR points/$ for ongoing spend, we're getting an average of 5.38c per $ back in hotel booking value too.

We'll spend the 3x $400 of travel credits on internal flights and tour bookings, nullifying the annual fees. Travel insurance and smart phone screen insurance are just added bonuses. Let alone the ongoing Amex statement credit offers which we used to get $300 back on a recent $700 wine purchase for a party amongst others!

We'd never be able to afford to stay in such nice hotels if it wasn't for these Explorer cards. Many thanks AMEX for such a great product and helping soften the cost of the Wedding!

Feel free to use my sign-up here: http://amex.com.au/refer/eliismEjw3

Disclaimer: You get 110k MR points, I get a 20k referral reward
