yes the annual fee is waived for the first year
however the "brochure" enclosed with the letter only mentions 5,000 points plus 2,500 points (for qantas spend) but this seems to be more of a standard brochure.

i will have to wait and see what happens else i will have to call them to follow it up

My card and supplementary card turned up yesterday with the brochure mentioned by dgruber. I interrogated to CSO when I rang to activate the card. The annual fee is waived for first year. and I was given verbal assurance that I would get the 15000 + 25000 with appropriate spends. We'll wait and see....

That's exactly what happened to me. Got my card in the mail on Wednesday, bought some chewing gum on it. I'll use it on an airfare for the points + travel insurance, so we'll see how it goes. The only evidence I have of the 17500 points offer is what you guys say. Basically it was an Internet-only deal. The folks in Bangalore/Manila don't seem all that cluey about what's going on.

Don't believe it's an Internet-only deal. A friend of mine got the 17K points offer in the post sometime late August. And unlike the Internet banner, there's no expiry date on that letter. He's a QFF.

I just received my card and stuff today - applied on 29th August.

Just rang them and got the verbal assurance as well re. no annual fee and the extra points.

My offer letter had a $195 in the first year.

*fingers crossed*

If the points don't come on with the first spend then what is the best 'battle plan'?

Bear I mind, I got told it could take 6-8 weeks before the points appear on your QF statement. But you'd still have 44 weeks to cancel it :)

I got my Premium Card about 2 weeks ago, one of the first transactions was tax on a QF award flight. THe 5000 points and the 2500 bonus was posted to my QFF account on Friday.

I was told the 10,000 bonus would be posted in 4-6 weeks from activation.

A friend of mine bought some top-up points on the Qantas website to get the 2500 bonus and the Qantas Club invites turned up about 8 weeks later.

Cheers,

Dubno

Just bought my first flight on it today so I'll let you know when I see some points and if I see an annual fee! :):p

Has anyone who applied around the 30th Aug not received a phone call, rejection letter or the card itself?

I'm still waiting for my card to turn up.

Also, what number did people call to check the status of their application?

Hi Mal

I applied on 30 August, and received my cards last week.
There was no annual fee for the primary card, but a $30 fee for a side card.
I guess the points will turn up one day.

Regards
Ray

Mal - I called the call centre to ask about the status of my application. They rang back when my phone was switched off, but left a msg giving me a number to call and a ref no. to quote. Did this and they said the status of my application would be determined over the weekend (couple of weeks ago) and to call back Monday. I did and was told that I had been successful. The day after I got a congratulatory phone call from offshore. See post #44 on this thread.

Spoke to Amex today. I might hear something early next week about it. My application is still being processed (and they seem to have quite a backlog as well).

Maybe all the posters and lurkers here have flooded Amex with applications !

(I also take back everything I said about Amex appearing to be quickly processing my application!)

I applied a few days before 30 Aug. Have had the card for a couple of weeks now and the 15,000 points posted to my FF account today. Very impressed. Just need to book a Qf flight now to get that extra 2,500 points.
I didn't have to make any phone calls to check the status of my application but this is the contact no I have: 1300 727 169

I'm very happy with AMEX. I applied about 2 hours before the offer closed. got my card within a week, had a transfer paid in the same time and today I got the 15k points as well.

No problems at all. Thanks to those who pointed out this offer. I might even keep the card after the 12 month fee free year.

Me to! :D :D :D
First spend was on the 5th Sept. They've credited the 15,000 plus points for some of my months' spending.

Well done AMEX. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Is that posted as in the points have been transferred to your QFF account...or just your AMEX account?

Mine appeared on my Amex statement 2 statements back but have yet to show up in my QFF account.

I think I might have ring Amex and see what the delay is.....

The points post directly to QFF, so there's no "Ascent" or other MR program...they simply go straight into your QFF account.

I haven't received a statement yet (it's barely been a few weeks since I got the card)...but I would've thought if they've appeared on your statement they should definitely be in your QFF account by now.

Good luck with it.

Cheers,
- Febs.

You have to provide them with your QFF number!

I had the same problem, even though i gave it to them on application, for some reason it didnt link through.

thanks for that.

Yes I did give it on application too.

but was starting to wonder..

so will call them.

...and they were doing so well, until this showed up on my statement. :(

MEMBERSHIP FEE $195.00
Time to get on the phone...

Update: "Billing error on our part. I can see that your annual fee should have been waived for the first year. My apologies, it will be reversed in the next few days."

Here's hoping. :)
