amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

Wow some of you guys get your points quick

Arrived a week ago activated 3 days ago and haven't got ours.

We're not fussed though. As long as they come

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

Bit the bullet and applied for this card yesterday. First "pure" AMEX for many years. 75k points to Velocity or KF seems to be a good return - hopefully the $400 travel credit will be useable on reasonable value hotels or car hire.

Any hints for new players in the AMEX space?

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

Got approved last monday and still have not received the card. How long does it take for AMEX card to arrive?

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

So from flicking through the last few pages I can see it's unlikely I'll receive to 110k bonus if I already have an Edge - so my question is - is it worth it worth it to cancel my Velocity Platinum and sign up for the Explorer in hopes of getting 2 points per $ or should I call and try to get get 30k~ Velocity points to keep my card when my renewal is up next month?

Well as long as you also want the flight benefit tray and get the 30K, book your flight and ten cancel to get the Explorer.

FWIW

For a couple of years I held Plat Edge and Velocity Plat, called a month ago to cancel my Velocity Plat (had already used my flight) was offered 26k points. I let them post and waited 1 more month till any points I had swept across. I then cancelled last night.

I thought the bonus for the Explorer card has reduced to 50,000?

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

I have held the Edge for about 6 months. I applied for the Explorer last week and the card arrived yesterday. I called Membership Rewards outside of standard AU hours last night and got them to raise a case to move the Explorer from Ascent to Gateway. Fingers crossed the bonus points come across after spending $1500 :)

Have you spent the $1500 already or intend to spend $1500 after it is linked to Gateway?

I've only spent $7.50 for parking this morning as the first transaction just to make sure it's activated. From what I've read I need to wait for it to be linked to Gateway and start the $1500 from then?
