amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

No luck trying to get the 100k points as a Charge card holder :(

Any actual new customers who's applied very recently and spent the required $1500? How long did it take to get your 100k points?

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

I had a great experience moving from Gateway to Ascent, took a week to move the points and about 3 days for the accounts to move.
Very interested in anyone getting signup points for a new card when holding an Ascent, and also points for the Charge when holding another card.

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

Same day as min transaction cleared

So got de-linked and linked to Gateway on 18/05 and made sure it referenced it online and the app.

Did a $1,500 purchase on 19/05 and then was charged my $395 fee on 22/05 and paid the full balance this morning so not hoping for much but lets see if the bonus comes though.

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

I was actually referring to my partners card . As an existing card holder I made the min spend on my new explorer at the beginning of May and am yet to receive the bonus .
I set up a new gateway acxo

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

Just received my 100k points bonus - still with "pending authorisations" to make the $1500 spending requirement. I must say I am very happy with the speed the points have credited. Points have now been transferred to Velocity - hopefully to get the 15% bonus. Interestingly AMEX promote the 15% bonus applies till 18/6, whereas the Velocity bonus program ends tomorrow. Screen shot taken just in case.

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

Yes - new to "real" AMEX. But I have a NAB Velocity Amex, and an ANZ QFF Platinum Amex which is about to die, so am realigning my credit cards (and picking up a few points along the way). Should have done this years ago....

Important thing is you've seen the light! Make sure you keep in mind the DJ Amex offer. You can get it with the 40k MR bonus points, even if you hold the Explorer. Check out the referral thread if you want more info.

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

For those of you who have a linked explorer to edge and generate large business spend, but need a larger limit there is a kind of loophole.

My plat edge had an invite to increase the limit from 6k to 9k which I took. I then transferred some credit limit from my edge to my explorer, bringing my limit for the edge down to 3k. I then applied again online via the link in the email to increase my credit limit to 9k...and it worked....over and over....oops.

(You can of course just pay off the card during the month as you go and keep spending, but for some people like me, my suppliers direct debit @1% fee, compared to 2% manual fee...so it's totally worth it to have the large limit and spend just under that amount)

Re: The Explorer Credit Card (New AMEX Ca

I have a question about the Explorer travel credit.
Can you use this year's $400 credit to book hotels for next year?
Or you can only use this year's travel credit for this year only ?

You can book almost a year out. ie I have just booked a SIN hotel for 21 April 2018 using a Travel Credit on my daughter's card as the TC was about to expire.

Just do a dummy booking and you will see what you can book.
