amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

is there a 3rd card with a bonus and great value, eg $395 fee, with $400 travel credit (not $1200 fee with $200 travel credit)

Note that Amex will only permit you to have 2 credit cards at any one time. So to gain a third Amex CC, you will first need to cancel one of your first two.

Note that a debit,or charge, card can be held in addition to two credit cards.

ANZ Rewards Traveller is probably your next best bet with 60k Velocity points, free VA flight + lounge passes for $225. Also no international transaction fees if that's a feature of interest.

I believe that deal has concluded.

Unfortunately the promotional offer you have selected cannot be found or has expired.

yes no int fees is a great incentive for me!
most ppl and sites say max 2 credit and 1 charge card, while some have said 3 cards in total, which one is correct?

the expiry date is 31st jan 2017 for the bonus pints, is tehre any point in giving my referall code to someone in case they apply after jan 31

I had the plat edge and velocity and applied for the explorer and got rejected, they rang and said there is a max of 2 credit cards per person.
I think the website says that as well.
You can have 2 credit cards and a charge card though.

That and no cash advance fees as well which 28 Degrees used to do too. With the current 60k VA bonus, hard to beat that value if you are using the flights and lounge passes already.

2 credit 1 charge is max.

Yes you can apply supplementary cards online - Login into your amex account online, choose add supplementary card, as soon as you pick explorer card ( you will see message asking you to call number at the back of the card ), What you need to do is to pick amex platinum edge ( I did this for all 4 supps card ), and fill all required information, and submit it.

You will receive amex explorer supps card in the next 4-5 working days.

Cheers

A warning for others. I tried this. Applied for supplementary cards in legitimate names. Caused huge problems that I'm still trying to get AMEX to fix. I've spend hours on the phone so far with this problem. 10 days later I still don't have my supplementary cards. AMEX said their system went into melt down when I applied for platinum edge cards from my explorer account.

I don't recommend you do this. Just call them to get your supplementary cards.

OK I've read back til page 80 to try get my head around things.

I have a Edge, and just got approved for Explorer.
Since I already have the Edge, the Explorer will also link to it, both under the Ascent program.
I need to call up and request to get the Explorer unlinked, into the Gateway program.
Make required spend, get points credited.
Call up and get Explorer linked back to the Ascent program.

Is this correct?

Yes, correct

From what I have read here, call on a weekend to get the US call centre and just say you want only one account. One is easier, two are confusing......
