has the annual fee been charged already? because you'd normally have to wait for it to be charged to get any meaningful negotiation

My anniversary date has ticked over - but statement due in a few days which will have the fee on it - maybe will try again then

Interestingly she did say if i cancel within 3 months of the fee appearing i will get the fee back in full

Usually get my retention points before anniversary. One of my staff got about 18k points spending lids than 10k a year so it seems pretty random.

15k bonus points, platinum edge, spending in very low 4 digits per month.

2 weeks till anniversary date.

23k offered when requesting cancellation of AMEX charge card. Declined and cancelled as not worth the 1200 annual fee for me

They offered me 23k - i said no - westpac offering 100k. Put me on hold and said ok - 30k - i said no - they said well why not take the bonus points now and if you still decide to cancel within the next 3 months then they will either offer more bonus points, or still refund the full $1200 fee! I asked for clarification that if I accept the bonus points, am I not locked in for the next 12 months and not able to cancel and she said no - definitely - not - she said in fact you could phone up and cancel next week - the bonus points are to thank me for being in the amex family for 5 years!

23k offered and accepted for inquiring about cancelling my Platinum Edge. Pretty low spend on it this year as I have only really used it for fuel and groceries.

I got 36k MR to retain Platinum charge with low spend of approx $3-5k per month (still mostly spending on Visa). Wife's Velocity Platinum offered 1500 points or downgrade to Velocity Red (bugger all spend but for Amex offers). Sounds like it's a function of tenure and spend level that determines how much they're prepared to give you to stay.

i spend $10k-$15k a month on my Plat Charge - only offered 23k, then 30k when i refused. The 36k and 44k offers all seem to have been from a while ago - when did you get offered that?

called up about my affiliate platinum edge which is coming up for its annual fee in 30 days - got offered 15k and i said i will think about it. i said my friend got offered 23k but they said 15k is the max they can do for me.

i put around $5k per month - but i also (stupidly) settled for 15k last year when i read afterwards people were getting offered 23k / 36k to stay.

ill try to call again tomorrow (good ol HUACA) and will report back..

My anniversary period on my Platinum Reserve & Edge cards were in July. Called up this evening saying I was considering cancelling both cards (given 75k bonus points available on certain new cards). Offered 30k for each card straight up. No holding. No nothing. Can't complain with 60k points

Just offered 15k points to keep Plat Edge until my annual fee is up in March 2017.. Actually did want to cancel whether offered anything or not as I don't use this card much now I have the Explorer and just applied for Plat Charge...

Will keep the card for now thanks to the points.
