Charge cards aren't affected by th newe legislation regarding Credit Cards hence no change to the cancellation process

And yet I've still had no luck.. But yes confirmed was told no need to cancel because it's a charge card.

Sad how they screwed up the airline redemption rate. Effectively halved it.

Maybe they have doubled the offer to retain to compensate?

About 1mil MR pts - only memberfor couple years this time around - ave 20K/month - dispute was over a minor matter they did not want to budge on - simple request - remove the charge or cancel card - they refused to remove charge then offered up 100K pts - no brainer

I hold a Plat Charge and an Explorer. Explorer was coming up for renewal. I tried the various lines that have been posted here, tip toeing around to carefully avoid saying cancel or retain. "Coming up to the renewal date, and deciding whether the card provides me with any benefit". "Are there any offers or options that might be available for me?". "Could you waive the annual fee?". Nil, just got a straight up "we can't incentivise you to stay, as of this year due to the law changes" blah blah. So I cancelled the card.

Interesting, did you have to go through the process of actually canceling to get the retention offer?

I spoke with the Aus call center earlier this week and they were adamant that the rules have changed since the Royal Commission and they are no longer allowed to make an offer until you actually cancel the card.

So went through the dance this morning with the offshore call center. Had to cancel the card, but once done was offered 70k velocity to stay.

I was happy with that.

Nothing offered. Explorer AF was due mid Sept

They doubled my explorer balance back in April so I don't mind

About six weeks ago, I was offered 35k MR points to keep my Plat Charge/Reserve/Edge combo.

The 35k offered was not enough and therefore I cancelled all my Amex cards on the spot so I could start the 18 month waiting period for new sign up offers.

I have to say that the world has kept turning and I have not missed the Amex cards at all. A nice bonus is not having to ask if the merchant takes Amex....

My 18 months exile is now up and I'm just about to get back on. There's definitely nothing special about AMEX. It's just another card to churn.

Just cancelled the charge/reserve/explorer/edge. Guy on the phone said that some customers thought that the changes to the Amex point system are favourable (really!!?? Must be from a different planet) Its a good feeling to get rid of all four at once and churning is definitely the only way to go with cards!
